The Grand Hotel shares the vision expressed in the concept of Eco Gozo and is committed to implement measures that contribute towards the realization of this mission. Natural Environment: We recognize that all our activities impact the natural environment around us and we will strive to do our utmost to conserve and protect the habitat of our beloved island.
Energy: We are committed to continue to expand our energy saving plan. This is done by using energy saving lamps, double glazed windows, gas fuel for our boiler, key card control for guest room lighting, air-conditioning and heating, etc. We have embarked to change our central HVAC system to individual independent units for our guest rooms.
Waste Management: We are committed that through our recycling program, we will help reduce waste and recycle. This is achieved by separating waste, recycling paper, cooking oil, batteries etc.
Water Conservation: We are committed to conserve water. This is achieved by reducing water waste in guest and public area bathrooms by installing water saving measures, continuously monitoring chlorine level in our pools, and using 2nd class water for toilets.
Transport: Our commitment to reduce CO2 is achieved by providing scheduled minibus service to Victoria, beaches and other places of interest on the island. This limits the usage of car rental services. We also encourage our guests to rent bicycles during their stay on the island.
Visitor Awareness: We are committed to inform our guests to help us reach our green program goals. We have in place a towel program, linen change, and water saving measures in guest and public area bathrooms. We use the bulletin board in our lobby to keep our guests informed of these green measures.
Staff Awareness: We believe that by increasing staff awareness, our team members will understand our green program and not only help us implement it at the Grand Hotel but also in their private lives, in their community and while enjoying their leisure time.
Community
We promote, encourage and keep our guest informed about all the cultural activities that happen on the island whether it is local village events, opera shows, local feast, or arts and crafts shows. Guests are provided with all our local dining knowledge and who our near by restaurants are. We also provide our guest with local tour guides to use and what wonderful attractions to see. The use of local transport but also the use of local walking paths which promote hiking tours around our wonderful local areas surrounding our hotel. Provide our own transport to guests to get to certain local events. We feel that our guest or any tourist that visits this island must get to know and truly experience the island of Gozo.
Our staff members are locally employed and we use local businesses to supply us with a variety of goods and services. Support local councils through the initiatives organised as well by sponsoring some events throughout the year when the need arises.
We participate in local events and help our community by promoting these events. We sponsor various fundraising activities throughout the year by offering vouchers for weekend breaks and Sunday lunches for raffle.
