Nairobi airport stop over guest house
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We discourage pollution by having an organized garbage disposal solution through a private company. Having Nairobi national park as one of the nearest parks to the city all over the world, we organize for half day excursions to our guests. At our reception office, we have a board showing the rules to follow while on this excursions like making sure we drive on tracks and never to go off road or make noise while on the parks. We follow strict rules that are set by the Kenya wildlife service (KWS).
At the main entrance of the park, we have an animal orphanage/safari walk.
At the park also we have David Sheldrick baby elephants orphanage. we encourage our guests to adopt them and be part of the exercise. At the compound, we plant potted plants, flowers which cover the ground to reduce evaporation. watering of flowers is early morning and late evening to make we conserve water and only use it in the right times of the days. All the taps are checked regularly especially when the taps are dry to make sure when the water is back, there is no running water accidentally.
We reuse plastic bags and sell plastic bottles and containers for recycling to waste management companies. Empty bottles from sodas and beer are taken back to the factory for cleaning and refilling.
Community
We support our community through employment. We are also a friend of Kenyatta national hospital where we organize with guests who have spare time to visit the special cancer ward 3B through the consent of the hospital management.
With this visit, our guests show love to the children and encourage them. They have time to play with them and some other activities like drawing and story telling. For those who can not afford to pay bills after a long stay at the hospital, some guests volunteer to pay bills for them.
We have also teamed up with volunteer organizations like seed of hope and tender feet in Kibera slums to host their volunteers and organize transport logistics when they stay with us.
We recommend walking tours within the city and the surrounding so that young people who are jobless can have some income through acting as guides.
Being on Mombasa road, we are lucky to have Maasai market open air market at the capital centre only ten minutes walk from our hostel. We encourage our guests to spend time to visit the market and buy from our locals as most of them rely on the talents of making baskets, bead necklaces, bracelets and anklets, belts with Kenyan flag colors.
Some guests end up signing some business deals which really help the locals.
As for the African delicacies, we are proud to be a little out of the city and every evening, we have some local restaurants that open in the evening outside the shops within the shopping center which are really worth tasting.
