How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Honey lodge makes use of the rain water collected on its roof by flushing the toilet, dishwasher and washing machine.
We have a huge 10,000 liter tank installed underground which also provides water to Honey Cottage "our other property which is within the same area, also the 2 hot tubs on the site have to be cleaned and refilled on a regular basis, also the large gardens and lawns benefit from the much needed rain.
All guests are encouraged to stay local and not use their cars by way of the information at the properties of local walks woodlands shops wildlife park Druidstone next door to us.
The Blean Initiative is a partnership of local authorities, parish councils, conservation organisations and community groups working together to maintain and enhance the unique landscape, cultural heritage and biodiversity of The Blean for all those who live, work or visit here.
We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to quietly enjoy the distinctive landscape and relaxing atmosphere of The Blean. There are well surfaced paths suitable for wheelchair users and families with pushchairs as well as people on foot. The first two trails described below have been developed with wheelchairs and pushchairs in mind.
Community
Kent cottage holidays at Blean use as many local businesses as possible, from local gardeners, house keepers, "local family run" garden centers.
Situated between Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham, the Blean covers an area of 11 square miles and is one of the most distinctive areas of ancient woodland in England, more than half of which is nationally recognised as being important for wildlife. The character of the Blean changes dramatically throughout the seasons making it a wonderful place to visit at any time of year and with a network of pathways stretching 120 miles (and plenty of promoted routes), it’s a fantastic area for walking alongside plenty of other outdoor activities including cycling, wildlife watching and horse riding.
The natural range of toiletries are sourced just 500 yards from our properties which are hand made onsite using only natural ingredients.
The building of Honey lodge used local materials some of which was scrap wood that would otherwise ended up on the fire, our contribution to the local community is by way of promoting other local businesses e.g. the Royal Oak for fantastic food and a warming open fire, the local Londis store who will deliver direct to the cabin. There are a large number of leaflets and brochures in the cabin. We also offer recommendations for places to eat and drink local to Blean when requested.
Due to the ever increasing popularity when we get inquiries about bookings for dates already reserved we recommend one or two other places to stay nearby including the local bed and breakfast.
Toiletries provided for guests are sourced locally, special occasions cakes are also locally made and delivered to the cabin, all services used are local trades people.
