Andaman Island beach resort, India
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We at Munjoh strive to protect the delicate eco-system of the Andaman islands.
We use Solar Energy to power our hot water geysers & for some part of the lighting.
We harness rain water in our wells and use them through the dry season to provide water to our resort.
We have our own Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) plant for purification and conversion of hard water from the well water. It is also used for drinking, we encourage guests to use this water to avoid plastic bottles.
The waste water from this R.O. plant is used for gardening and toilet, thereby ensuring no wastage of water on our premises.
Our wet garbage and kitchen waste is used in our compost pit to create soil for the plants.
Our sanitation pit is also made with organic, natural material and has no plastic or non-biodegradable material used.
We encourage guests to re-use towels and bedsheets during their stay and wash them when they are marked for laundry.
We use organic locally grown vegetables and use fresh seafood sourced directly from the farmer/fishermen to ensure that they earn the money directly.
95% of our work force is local and we are an equal-opportunity employer.
We use energy saving bulbs and L.e.d's to lighten our load on the environment and to reduce our energy load from the island.
Some of our lights in the common areas are smart lights with motion sensors, they come on only when there is movement, hence avoiding energy wastage.
Most of our literature is printed on re-cycled organic paper in an effort to save our trees.
All our room and kitchen products are eco-friendly / re-recyclable and organic.
We empty the beach of any leftover food & trash every morning and evening so that the sea remains unpolluted and the beach clean.
We discourage use of plastic bottles and plastic bags as much as possible and shop for our resort as well in cloth bags.
We use chemical free paints, garden products and cleaning liquids.
Community
We support the Andaman beach cleanup service, our staff volunteers and helps the civic authorities to keep the beach clean.
We support divers & dive schools on the Andaman islands in the mission to keep the waters clean post diving and regular reef watches to make sure the corals and underwater life are unharmed.
We also support boats compulsorily fitted with good quality carbon filters and the use of good quality fuel for engines so as to keep water pollution under check and to avoid the layer of slick the fuel leaves on water surface.
We offer the local people a good environment to work in, fair wages and empower them with training and opportunities to shape a career. A part of our earnings is dedicated for CSR activities and support of the under-privileged.
We encourage local artisans and regularly buy products made by them- to name a few: the key rings in the rooms are locally made, the shoes our staff wear are locally made, all the cane and bamboo work in our resort has been made by the local people. We encourage our guests to visit the local cottage industry to see and directly buy products made by the artisans there.
Our villas have roofs made of local thatch made by artisans from these islands. We will continue to source local rice, organic and fresh vegetables from the local farmers to encourage them in their livelihood.
