New Forest hotel in Lyndhurst, England
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We at The Penny Farthing Hotel are proud of the beautiful area we live in and strive to reduce our carbon foot print by using locally sourced ingredients in our kitchen. All our water is softened by our in house water softener which reduces the amount of harmful chemicals required to clean and for our guests a little shower gel or shampoo goes a long way. We have recently ditched the single use products for refillable multi purpose products which reduces wastage in both the product and packaging. We have a strict recycling policy in place and encourage our suppliers to reduce the package on our supplies where ever possible. All our boilers and equipment are regularly maintained to ensure efficient running and reduce the costs and adverse environmental impact. Where ever possible, low energy light bulbs are used.
The Penny Farthing Hotel is widely accessible with many bus routes through and just a ten minute taxi or bus ride from Brockenhurst or Ashurst train station. The New Forest Tour bus, which stops in the centre of Lyndhurst, is a great way to see and visit the many attractions and villages within the New Forest. And being the Penny Farthing we are keen to promote the benefits of cycling around our stunning area and promote the use of our secure bike storage. We offer cycling guides/maps and walking maps which we encourage our guests to use and explore the New Forest.
Community
Being in the heart of Lyndhurst, the capital of the New Forest, we fully support our local community in the conservation of the area. In each bedroom and self catering property we provide a list of “things to do” within our welcome folder, advising guests of what’s to see & do in Lyndhurst and the New Forest. We also have many leaflets and brochures of local attractions and places to visit available to all our guests within our lounge. Up to date menus of each Lyndhurst restaurant are also available in our lounge so that guests can peruse over a drink. Our recommendations are high lighted as the restaurants that use locally sourced ingredients and have been experienced by ourselves.
We are very lucky to have the amenities that Lyndhurst has to offer such as; its variety in shops and restaurants to a post office and banks in such close proximity to beautiful open heath land and fantastic scenery. We are keen to keep the community of Lyndhurst alive and fully support our local butcher and green grocer, who provide us with locally sourced produce for our kitchen.
We employ a number of local people with a vast knowledge and passion for the area.
Landscape
We are just a short walk away from open forest Heath land and wooded areas which lays host to a number of British wildlife that is rare in many other areas of Great Britain. New Forest ponies, cattle and Donkeys are a familiar sight throughout the area and in certain areas deer. Rare plants and birds such as buzzards (that have, since the ban of their being hunted become a common sight soaring above the New Forest pines), are also found and protected by the National park. Adders, grass snakes and small sand lizards although allusive are in abundance.
The new forest is a vast and diverse area with acres of open forest obstructed by quaint villages and hamlets and areas of dense woodland. There are plenty of areas to off road cycle, walk or picnic and we are within easy reach of our glorious coast line and un spoilt, rustic beaches.
