Northern Ireland, 5 star eco barn near Irvinestown
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Orchard Acre Farm has been as a Green business from the day we took over the deeds our first day. Managed by Teresa who holds a masters in environmental management...what else would you expect!
The bottom line is Teresa, her husband Hugh and now their family simply care about the environment locally and globally. They take every effort to ensure their farm business has a positive impact on the local Environment and Community . See the Awards in recognition of their work.
We have a set of published environmental principles which guide our business development, beginning with our ethical bank; Triodos, to our 100% recycling and exclusive use of renewable energy for Eco Barn and farm house.
We are license No 2 on the Eco label for Eco tourism in Ireland accreditation by Failte Ireland and Northern Ireland Tourism board (NITB). Teresa and Hugh are both licensed bat handlers and volunteer their time to Bat conservation in county Fermanagh. Orchard Acre Farm Family and staff are both knowledgeable and passionate about the local environment and can sign post you to the best places to see Irish wildlife and local historic places of interest
Please don't just take our word we have won multiple awards for our Green Business and design of our buildings across the whole of Ireland
We have the Green business Award in 2008 and 2011
We have the Responsible Small Business award for 2011
we have the sustainable Buidling Award for NI in 2009
Teresa has won the Greenbox Eco Tourism Inspirational Award 2008
Teresa won the Invest NI Business Woman of the year award 2009
Community
Our staff, our suppliers, our neighbours are not only the life of our business they are also our best and most frequent customers. We purchase ingredients and supplies locally and its worth noting that the development of our Eco barn generated almost 1/4 million euro for the local economy. In fact we only spent 3k outside the locality.
We organise regular free guided walks for children in the nearby country Park (Castle Archdale), run free family days on the farm and organise free event for both our local summer festivals.
We have established a junior moth recorders centre at the farm in partnership with the British Butterfly and Moth Association. We supply to local restaurants and hotels and participate in all the seasonal festivals. Orchard Acre Farm family volunteers in several community based organisations; especially those involved in peace and reconciliation. Over the last year, events held here at the farm generated over £1000 sterling for the Children's' Hospice (Horizon West ).
We are active members of the Irvinestown Lady of the Lake Festival, Northern Ireland longest running community festival. A simple test to gauge the validity of my testimony regarding the level of support for and by our local community is to ask locals for directions to Orchard Acre Farm and see what THEY say. Tx
