How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We used fruits from the garden in our breakfast dining and purchase local organic food from reputable suppliers who follow our own green code of ethics. We do NOT purchase goods from the usual supermarkets. We recycle daily all plastics, glass, tin and paper and ask all guests to fill their bedrooms bins with rubbish so it can be sorted and recycled. We also offer a book exchange fre of charge. We do not change towels and linen daily and this is informed direct to guests due to eco initiatives at time of booking and is displayed in all our marketing literature. Our garden is wildlife friendly with many birds, we even have a dog ourselves who is very socialable. All used water is re-used in the garden. We offer free water in bedrooms (not plastic bottles) which are refilled daily. We are located ten minutes from Gare De Beziers where we can meet guests and also a five minute walk to Canal Du Midi - we can arrange for local bicycle hire. With regards to energy, as we are based in the sunniest part of France, we have solar paneling and water reduction units in place so that energy costs are kept to a minimum and also there is not alot of wasted water especially when using showers (we don't have baths in all the bedrooms only one).
Community
We recommend good local restaraunts within walking distance which offer excellent home cooked organic food - we even eat there ourselves weekly. In our reading room and also in all the bedrooms we have welcome packs detailing local places of interest, recommendations by us and good places to eat. Having lived here for many years we also involve our neighbours in researching and informing us of new places to go, walking trips, cycle trips and wildlife lesiure activities such as local bird watching and riding. We pride ourselves on exhibiting local crafts and artwork and invite people to sample and buy their works - this is an ongoing venture and helps to establish local artistes and craft makers. As well as this we sell home made cards and all profits are diercted to a local animal charity. ALL tips left by guests are also sent to charity and no tips are EVER pocketed by the owners! (our own rule for many years!!). Our guests are welcomed into our home not just as paying guests but as people wishing to provide them a good holiday/welcome break. We are not a chain hotel, we are individual.
