Lake Bracciano luxury aparments in Lazio, Italy
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We live in a big town and Italy’s politics is far from encouraging people to respect the environment. It is also important to emphasize that although Italy is the first organic producer, only scarcely 10% of the total Italian population use organic or ecological food/products.
Your accommodation: We are a green business offering 'mainstream' accommodation (sandals and hair shirts not required). A responsible holiday shouldn't mean giving up all the good things! Our ethos is simply sustainability and relaxed comfort, not consumption and 'luxury'.
We help promote green tourism in this part of Bracciano. Along with other accommodation providers, we want to encourage guests to enjoy the tranquility of the lake living and to bring vital income into the village.
Staying at our Italian Riviera hotel has a direct benefit on our area and its population. Local farmers, families running small restaurants, independent crafters and artists and young, talented people increase their job opportunities thanks to our guests.
We ask you to join us in recycling paper, cardboard, glass, cans, drink cartons, and food-plastic, and putting all food waste in the biodigesters. We collect hazardous waste, like batteries, separately so they don’t end up in landfill sites. Your help already lets us keep nearly 80% of our waste out of landfill. Our ambition is 'nearly nothing to landfill' by 2018.
Environmental Benefits
Our environmentally conscious approach applies to everything. To start with we only purchase organic food from growers and people in order to support sustainable practices. Food leftovers are used to feed our chickens and rabbits. We compost all our organic wastes to produce humus and manure which we re-use. Waste water is re-used as much as possible and subsequently dissipated in the ground according to environment-friendly techniques that contribute to the preservation of precious drinking water.
Community
Guests are encouraged to use the two restaurants in the village and the local shop, and so maximising the impact they have on the village economy. Where possible food is sourced locally, either from “home-made” producers in the village (olive oil, herb tea, vegetables, honey) or from nearby organic shop.We recycle glass, paper, plastic, aluminum, batteries and waste food. we use recycled print cartridges. We are able to run the B&B just the two on us. Fortunately Michele is quite good with building electrics and plumbing so we mainly do all the work in our house by ourselves. All fruit and vegetables are seasonal and always preferably as close as possible grown near Rome.
We strive to increase local employment opportunities by:
- Encouraging the spread of sustainable tourism throughout the region. This includes supporting existing organizations, mainly co-operatives of young, talented people that wouldn't otherwise find work in an area which has few industries.
- Using local food and wine which we by directly from producers. We encourage our guests to eat at local trattories and can recommend visits to wineries and oil mills.
- Encouraging young local people to take up their abandoned plots of land in order make a living from agriculture. This also revitalises local villages, preventing them from decay.
- Arousing new interest about old and new crafts which use local raw materials and ancient techniques. The aim is to provide a large number of new jobs to the young people who are presently forced to find work elsewhere.
