How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Lanzarote is an island known worldwide for its example of tourism and economic sustainability, distinguished by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. With the aim of contributing to the care of our island, over ten years ago we committed to the environment, sustainability and social responsibility and with the help and cooperation of our customers and employees have been honored by the Institute of Tourism Responsible, certified "Sustainable Hotel". In line with this prestigious award, we follow concrete practices like reducing our energy and using renewable energy coming from our solar panels. We also minimize energy by using low energy lighting and ensure that all appliances are not left on standby when not in use. In the entrance to each room the client must put their room key in the lock to activate the lights and power.
Our hotel tries to preserve the environment and for that reason we invite all our guest to reuse and recycle the rubbish. For that we have special containers to separate plastics, papers, and glasses. We also try to involve them in our water saving initiatives asking them to choose about having or not the towels and the sheets changed. We always try to get better in the implementation of enviromentally friendly standard and with our clients help, we striver to comply with the Biosphere Hotels Standard ISO 14.001 and EMAS.
Community
Staff training:
We give our staff in house and government training, carrying out regular courses in all departments. The 80% of them are from the sorrounding comunity (and have been working for us from more than 10 years).
Local crafts and culture:
We sustain jobs and cultural diversity by supporting local craft makers and artisans. We exhibit local craft artworks in our reception and some of our rooms are decorated with traditional ceramics.
Volunteering and charity:
During the year we colaborate with some local associations like "Calor y cafe" giving free stays for charity draws and in Christmas we buy food to this same association for people that need it.
We promote rural tourism by encouraging guests to eat out locally and use local amenities such as shops, sports facilities etc. We also encourage them to buy local products. We provided full information on local restaurants, activities and farmers markets. From the hotel you may easily visit the places of touristic interest in the island, such as the Timanfaya National Park, Teguise (with its Sunday market), Haria (the one-hundred palm village, with its Saturday craft market). Other interesting locations to visit in the island include Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes, Mirador del Río, El Golfo, the Cesar Manrique Foundation, La Geria (the wine-growing area of the island).
