Tasmania working sheep farmstay accommodation
How Tasmania working sheep farmstay accommodation makes a difference
Environment
We are very committed to sustaining our environment. Our vision for our farm is to have 20% of our existing 300 hectares of farmland set aside for conservation., We already have 12% under conservation as habitat for native animals, birds, spiders and insects as well as protection for the native plants themselves. We do this by planting native trees, shrubs and grasses, protecting wetland areas, monitoring salinity and rencing off remnant bushland for natural regeneration. We farm in a responsible sustainable manner and are ecocertified for this along with our use of biodegradable cleaning agents and recycled papers. We have been farming for 6 generations and wish to continue farming for many generations to come. We are caretakers for our envirionment for future generations. Our wool is sold as chemical free and we meet best practice industry standards in our management and care of lambs that we produce for market. We use natural products such as molassas and lime wherever possible in our fertilizer and chemical use program. We monitor water quality on the farm to measure salinity levels and employ a soft approach to grazing and stocking rates. We have fenced off 80% of our lakeside foreshore to prevent erosion and promote regeneration of native plants.
Community
We support our local community by being members of local groups and services e.g. volunteer fire brigade and local agricultural show membership, we employ local staff and use local produce. We reccommend local businesses to our customers and take pride in living in and being part of our beautiful farming valley. We are inaugral members of the local tourism discussion group and contribute readily to regional and state based tourism promotional and marketing activities. The farm tours we run convey a sustainable message about the inportance of a healthy vibrant community. Each year we make our farm available to the Boy socuts and Girl Guides of southern Tasmania to come fo a camping weekend. We explain to them about our sustainable famring operation and they assist us with tree planing activities. Our farm is close to Mt Field National Park and Russells Waterfalls so we share customers from our accommodation to these national parks and nearby cafe's and businesses. Visitors to the Derwent Valley caqn experience the Rainforests and Waterfalls, Bonnorong Wildlife sanctuary and the Curringa Farm Expereince. We are Currings, work closely with the local Wildlife park and provide habitat for controled release programs of rehabilitated animals.
