How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

We believe in sustainable tourism and land management. We love our amazingly quiet and beautiful farm, our area and our neighbors and thus strive to make a small foot print on the planet and have a positive impact on our local community.

This is why we cultivate our farm organically, and we are certified organic. We live in an area where water is in short supply, especially in the summer. We choose not to have a swimming pool because the negative environmental impact (the high water consumption and chemical pollution) of swimming pools, including the more "natural" salt water pools is great.

We are located close to the wonderful Adriatic Sea (perfect for swimming for all ages) and also the Sibillini Natural Park (in the mountains) which is a member of the European Charter for sustainable tourism in protected areas.

We realize of course that we play only a tiny part in helping our environment, but know that every little thing that anyone does is a step in the right direction for the future. At our farm we heat our water and house with sansa, the leftovers of the olive oil production and wood, both of which leave a small impact on the environment. Soon we will also have solar panels to help heat our water. We mostly use cleaning agents which are environmentally friendly, recycle, re-use and buy locally whenever possible. We collect rain water for our plants and landscape with mostly indigenous plants that need little water. WE have planted many trees, shrubs and plants to encourage wildlife to return, and they do! In only a few years we've seen all sorts of new birds, owls, insects, bees, butterflies, toads, etc take up residence here. As much as possible we grow the vegetables and fruit that we eat and continually learn and practice new ways to preserve our earth for future generations and support our local community.

We enjoy sharing this tiny corner of the earth that we care for with others. It is truly a relaxing, friendly and beautiful corner that leaves lasting memories.

Community

We shop and encourage our guests to shop locally. We are blessed with numerous farms nearby producing excellent quality products, produce, meat, flours and wine and we support them. There are lots of excellent restaurants nearby and of course great bars with terrific coffee and homemade ice cream. Local guides take our guests for hiking in the mountains, truffle hunting, porcini mushroom hunting and guided tours to many of the art towns and cities nearby. Our area is rich with things to see and experience, from nature to art and we feel that our guests experience the full richness of it all with the very people who have a passion for their area.

We are both active in several environmental protection groups in the area and work closely with two other like-minded local agriturismos, helping each other with special events and supporting the products they produce. We offer cooking classes and cook only with local products.

Our area is also rich with local festivals and markets and we provide information as to where to go when. We take people on vineyard tours to introduce our guests to fabulous quality, organic wine. We also offer to our guests to help with the olive harvest and take them to our local olive mill. The area is famous for shoe production and we provide information of where to go to purchase shoes, all made locally. We provide maps and information about places to visit.

Story of the accommodation provider

Your hosts are Hans (from Holland) and Elizabetta (from the USA, raised in Italy) Hans bought the property in 2006 with a vision to restore it so that guests could come both in the farm house and as campers on the farm. It had been abandoned for over 15 years. We've restored it by ourselves, both the farmhouse and the farm. We've planted a field of lavender and restored the olive grove and the small vineyard. We love our small farm and enjoy sharing it's beauty as well as introducing guests to what we think is the prettiest, greenest corner of Italy.
