Loire Valley tree house ecolodge, France
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We are delighted to welcome you to our Family Ecolodge. Respecting the environment is a key mission for us, so we have developed our Family Ecolodge to mimimise its environmental impact while at the same time guaranteeing that your stay is a memorable one. Our efforts would not be much use if they were not followed by our guests. What follows is a summary of our action and a guide to assist you in contributing to our efforts:
Energy: Less consumption. Water heated via solar panels, 100% renewable energy sources.
Water: Adapt water flow to ensure necessary but comfortable output, automatic leak detection, rainwater collection, watering by drop systems, use certified environmentally-friendly cleaning products.
Waste: Systematic composting and recycling. Reduce wrapping in purchased products, and favour recycled and recyclable material.
Air quality: We encourage local and organic produce in what we buy, thereby reducing transport and chemical emissions. Our accommodation and public areas are non-smoking. We participate in carbon offset programs and use healthy material in our accommodation.
Ecoconstruction: Selecting solutions with the lowest possible impact on nature (centralised, vs. decentralised toilet facilities, car-free grounds…), high-performance building insulation, local building material, respect of local architecture
Biodiversity: Preservation of habitats and species: pond, wood piles, walls, flowering prairies… and education of our guests on protecting nature and use of recyclable and biodegradable products.
In order to solidify our commitment and to keep building onto it, we have chosen to partner with La Clef Verte (The Green Key)
La Clef Verte is a voluntary designation awarded every year by an independent jury to the entire ecological industry sector: hotels, campsites, bed & breakfasts, tourist residences….
The requirements are established on the international level and are shared by all countries. They are evaluated every year in order to remain cutting-edge and to meet the environmental regulations issued by the Fondation pour l’Education ŕ l’Environnement (Environmental Education Foundation).
If you need more information on La Clef Verte, or if you want to have the detailed list of the designation’s 109 requirements, please do not hesitate to ask us.
Community
1: We prefer to create employment first in our very small village. Example: in our village, there were 10 unemployed peoples. By creating Family Ecolodge, we have reduced this figure by 20%. Every summer, we help students to earn money to pay their studies.
2: We help local producer. First we allow them to sell their products directly in Family Ecolodge. Second, as often as possible we purchase to local producer. When it’s not possible, we buy organic products produced in France.
3: We have chosen to develop sensibility of our customers by explain them our action in our ecological commitments. We have decided to promote green travel offering to rent electric bikes at a price lower than usually taken at the market.
To increase sustainability and to help local schools, we have decided to fund the cooperative education to buy some new books for its library and to organize trips with an ecological aim.
4: We have choosen to work with small companies for our suppliers. We prefer to promote newly established companies, to help them grow and create new jobs in our region. We also prefer to work with independent people whose economic activity is weak to help them live their craft and sustain jobs.
