Noordhoek holiday cottages, Cape Town, South Africa
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We provide facilities for and encourage our guests to recycle waste, sorting it in to categories for collection by a local business.
Our beautiful green lawns are watered from an underground, non potable water supply which is registered with the City of Cape Town.
We practice organic, pesticide free gardening and have introduced many indigenous, water wise plants and flowers.
All organic waste materials are used for natural composting to maintain our gardens
Compact fluorescent energy saving bulbs are used in all of our light fixtures.
Lighting of the outside of the accommodation and the extensive property and pool takes place by means of Solar powered lamps.
Door lighting of the accommodation is operated by means of light sensitive lamps which switch off when there is sufficient daylight.
We grow our own organic vegetable and support the local small farming community for what we are not able to grow.
All water for showers and baths is provided by an on-demand water heater thus saving energy that would be wasted in heating a regular hot water cylinder.
Bed linen and towels are naturally air dried to save energy, even in winter.
Towels are changed every third day to save water, unless specifically requested by our guests.
Electronic or hazardous waste is disposed of to a local concern which specialises in the removal and processing.
