Environment
Our main promise is to respect the land. All around the word land is important, but in a little island like La Palma land use is the most sensible detail for environment. When you come to Casa Goronas you know that the place where you are staying has respect the land and it was not built specially for tourism. This is our main value: the land. Casa Goronas was pioneer in Fuencaliente applying this idea, and we always invite local people to restore their old and out of use houses and use them to get some money instead of building new ones for touristic use.
We do more things for environment like:
Using low energy light bulbs.
We do not use poisons to keep the plants clean of plague. We use natural cleaners.
Around the house you can see the wild life and the clean sea. We contribute to keep this environment clean by recycling as much as possible: we produce compost with organic rest from gardens and kitchen. We also recycle plastics, papers by taking them from the house to the government deposits in Las Indias.
We recommend our customers to go buying not using plastics, and to make it easier we provide textile bags in the house.
Community
One of the problems that tourism produces every where is the land consumption. This is specially important in an island as La Palma which is not so big, and with a very sensible environment. Casa Goronas is a traditional country house which was built before 1800 and, of course, it was not built for tourism, and it also has its own architectonic value.
Casa Goronas helps not only the environment but also to keep traditional culture, by maintaining local architecture.
The house was restored using local products, local workers and traditional building systems.
Casa Goronas is a single house served by it's owner and local people who helps her to clean the house and gardens and also to repair it when necessary.
The house located in Las Indias, which is a group of houses where lives local people who have seen the progress of this house and have learned thanks to this experience, those old houses can be restored and helps family economies. Thanks to this, many other families in the area have rebuilt or restored their old and out of use houses. So we can say that thanks to Casa Goronas today you can see many old houses in Las Indias restored and helping local economy and all this without taking new land, but using only old buildings.
We recommend our customers to ask local companies about their services as bike rental, guided tours, restaurants, etc. In this line, I provide my customers the telephone numbers of little local companies, and, if necessary, I call for them. This is another help for local economy.
Casa Goronas is next to Teneguia and San Antonio volcanoes so all our customers use to visit this sensible and beautiful areas. We encourage our customers to respect all the area which helps maintaining it not only by the economy but also by direct cares.
We do this not only with volcanic areas, but also with Caldera de Taburiente National Park, with is not so far away, and is also visited by our customers.
