How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Lanzarote is an island known worldwide for its example of tourism and economic sustainability, distinguished by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. With the aim of contributing to the care of our island, over ten years ago we committed to the environment, sustainability and social responsibility and with the help and cooperation of our customers and employees have been honored by the Institute of Tourism Responsible, certified "Sustainable Hotel". In line with this prestigious award, we follow concrete practices like reducing our energy and using renewable energy coming from our solar panels.
We also minimize energy by using low energy lighting and ensure that all appliances are not left on standby when not in use. Our hotel tries to preserve the environment and for that reason we protect the quality of the land, making a proper ground cover and introducing protection in places where they would result in contamination (anti-spill tays, absorbent for emergencies...) ; we also control microbiological and chimical quality of water so it doesn't rappresent a risk to public health.
We maximize the use of recycle paper and try to set out good practice printing it in both sides; Our gardens show auctóctona flora to avoid altering the natural landscape;
Extinguishers and equipment refrigerators establishments employ propellants and refrigerants that do not damage the ozone layer; We ensure proper levels of noise in all areas trough the adoption of practices by our staff and clients, we establish periods of silence and our televisions and phones have limiters.... We always try to get better in the implementation of enviromentally friendly standard and with our clients help, we striver to comply with the Biosphere Hotels Standard ISO 14.001 and EMAS.
Community
Staff training:
We give our staff in house and government training, carrying out regular courses in all departments. The 80% of them are from the sorrounding comunity because we encourage recruitment of local staff, without considering gender or race (and most of them have been working with us for the last 10 years).
Local crafts and culture:
Our buildings respect local architecture and reflects the local style in order to avoid any environmental impact. We also use craft arteworks in the decoration of the hotel so we support local artmakers and artisans.
Volunteering and charity:
We colaborate in campaigns for social purposes, such as grants and food banks and we give free stays for charity draws. We colaborate specifically with the Local ONG "Calor y cafe".
In our hotel we provide information about the most attractive places to visit in the island and try to promote local economic development by suggesting to our customers go to locally owned restaurants and try products and wine from the island. We also suggest our customers to visit the craft markets and typical local products to really know our island. As part of being a good partner we aim to work with our suppliers to encourage them to be more sustainable.
