How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We encourage all our guests to be environmentally aware and re-cycle glass, plastic and cardboard, etc. We recycle all of the waste produced. Our water supply is stored and filtered before it's being distributed, unfortunately we do not have space to install solar pannels, so we use smart heaters, with technology that uses low ammounts of energy, running with a clock unit, that maximizes energy consumption.
The Building is from early 70's and it was restored to preserve it's original aspect. All of the materials used, respect the enviroment and are recyclable.
We have bikes for guests to borrow.
Bed linen will only be cleaned after your stay. Showers have water saving tabs and you will find notes to save water and electricity use as much as possible. Lamps have energy saving bulbs.
The house is well insulated with double glass windows, which saves a lot of energy in wintertime and keeps the house nice and cool in summer.
An well serviced bus stop is just outside the property, and the Metro Station is just 6 minutes away, walking time. We also have for hire, electric bicicles and scooters.
Travel always has an impact on the country you are visiting, we aim to lessen the negative impact and always encourage respect for the environment.
See you in Portugal!
Community
We organize local events to raise funds for charity or for the defense of animals. One of the biggest events is the Dog Surf Championship that raises good funds to local associations that take care of animals, providing veterinarian care, food and supplies.
Our cleaning and laundry services are with companies that use only bio degradable products.
We encourage our guests to walk in Matosinhos, eat and shop there. Our town is quite quiet with all the shops still owned by local families. We have local guides for guided walking, biking and fishing tours, who suport our ideals and who speak several languages, are knowledgeable about the historic lore of the area.
We provide our Guests with information on several local activities, restaurants, visits and museums, as well as wonderful local markets and even our neighbour's lovely kitchen gardens. We work only with local people, helping in their income and lives. Our site shows how much we favour humanising all actions. We invite our Guests to contact with the economic and cultural activities in the region, e.g., promoting wine tasting, grape picking, direct contact with local people and their habits, the landscapes and wildlife in the Douro region, through photography, walking tours and respectful visits. We know that people in the region are still not used to this, but themselves also know that they need such development links. We are gladly engaged and helping in this. The people are also happy with our work.
