Algarve tipi, tent and yurt accommodation, Portugal
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We are striving for sustainability. Our toilet system drains out onto a natural reed bed. We have a natural well. We grow alot of our own vegetables organically and strive for permaculture through continuos learning, applying the principles and sharing ideas. Using ecological products which are kind to the environment. We encourage workshops and retreats in permaculture and organically grown produce. We are committed to conserving the natural habitat of the wildlife surrounding Tipi Algarve and encourage sustainability towards our local neighbours. We are endevouring to use low tech and hi tech alternative energy systems to further reduce our impact on the environment.
We use composting and recycling to reduce our waste impact. We use solar power to heat our water in the future. We are planning in the future to go off grid. We conserve as much power as we can. We educate ourselves as much as possible via permaculture magazines, forums in order to receive the latest news about new techniques in organic farming and how to become more sustainable. We go on courses and encourage experts in bushcraft skills, wildlife, environmentalists, permaculture techniques to come and stay with us to share their ideas and teach us so that we can pass on this knowledge.
Community
Our local shepherd uses our land to graze his goats. we buy cheeses from him throughout the year. We support the local restaurants by encouraging our guests to eat there. We buy local organic produce where possible from local farms in the surrounding area such as an aloe vera farm. We encourage sustainability and share our ideas with our neighbours. Where possible we source our products from local suppliers that are ethical and support sustainability. We meet up with the local community to discuss how we can reduce waste. We strive to employ local people. we support local charities. We believe in fair trade.
Tipi Algarve encourages volunteers to come and stay and have received local people from the community to come and volunteer. We regulary meet with other alternative people in the area to share and support eachother. We organize swap meets with neighbors to lessen our environment. We trade as much as we can used goods and products with our local friends and neighbours and make use of charity shops, second hand shops, auctions and Free cycle. We also encourage our guests not to throw away good food products thats hardly been eaten because they are leaving tipi Algarve and going on their way. When we go through the rubbish for recycling we ensure that food stuffs are divided up properly and we encourage our guests to do this with their own waste in the camp kitchens. We are striving for a minimal waste environment. Our chickens our fed natural organic veg and grains before we send off to composting. We run local workshops in organic gardening and explain the importance of the various kinds of composting that we use.
