How Cayman Island boutique hotel makes a difference
Environment
Waste
Living on an island has it challenges and one of our biggest issues it how to deal with our trash, that’s why we at the Caribbean Club have made it one of our goals to produce as little trash as possible, so it will not grow our land fill.
Last year, local supermarkets replaced their non-degradable plastic shopping bags with biodegradable alternatives and started charging 5 cents per shopping bags in a bid to cut down on the number of bags ending up in Cayman’s landfill.
That first phase of the Cayman BECOME campaign brought an initial reduction of as much as 80 per cent in the number of plastic bags sold in supermarkets. Prior to that, an estimated 12 million plastic bags were being disposed of every year in Grand Cayman.
Therefore we at the Caribbean Club provide our guest with free recyclable shopping bags; this will reduce the trash and save our precious marine live.
We are very eager to support the government’s efforts to clean up Cayman's environment. We are going to start colleting aluminum cans to recycle and help reduce the waste on the island. With it being so small, everyone should do their part to help keep it clean. We are constantly looking for more ways to be innovative in terms of environmental health.
