Dolomites family hotel in Trentino, Italy
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
All family hotels are small scale and family-run and this makes the real difference, since it means everything is much better controlled, from wastes to energy until economic cooperation among tourism operators. Our family hotels are good place to meet the hospitality of Trentino and cuisine, to meet new people, and to live not as a tourist, but as a local. Our hotels respect the local law on waste management and pollution reduction, which represents the highest standard in the Italian context. Hotels separate glass, plastic, paper, cartoons, tins, and compost all food and garden waste. Use of printed brochures has been reduced in the whole valley and by the hoteliers themselves, as most of the promotion is done by the Internet and email marketing. Some hotels produce energy with solar panels and all of them are linked to the local production of hydroelectric energy, which makes the valley almost independent under this point of view. Some hotels are also committed with the local Natural Park to promote protection of wildlife and encourage visitors to discover sustainable behaviors. Some hotels have been restored according to the newest technology on sustainable construction, in the traditional style and using local materials. In most cases restoration has been done by local companies.
Community
All hotel owners are local private accommodation providers, there are not any hotel owned or managed by foreign companies. Overnight in private accommodation enhances the visitors’ experience, since they get an opportunity to be welcomed by a local host and thus get better insight in everyday life of local people in Trentino. Our hotels encourage our guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants, buy local produce and use local services. All our staff are employed locally, and we support the local businesses by buying local produce from the nearby farms for the guests and our meals. Hotel owners also use local services such as builders, electricians and plumbers for the maintenance of the property. Hotel owners support the local Ecomuseum, which promote local culture and preserve local heritage. Ecomuseum also organizes guided tours to know historic sites and hotel managers propose them to their guests. Hotels buy food and beverage from local producers, especially from local farmers and wine makers, in this way our travelers are contributing to the local economy. Owners also cooperate actively with local tourism board, stimulating the partnership and cooperation among tourism operators, to organize events and help guests to meet the different sides of the valley. Many operators suggest other accommodations and are keen to develop common strategies with their colleagues.
