How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

The lodge is totally energy sufficient by utilising Solar energy and we are committed in adopting more and more policies to have the less impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

We do have a waste management plan approved by MET and we do recycle most that we can.

Most of the material utilized for the lodge structure is reused and recycled material. Our roof for example is made utilizing old gas drums. Our Office and store room where abandoned shipping containers.

The lodge undertook a full EIA (Environmental impact assessment) and got the go ahead from the Ministry on Environment and tourism.

We are following a Game Count program of the Namibian Ministry of environment and WWF Namibia. This program is to report to MET and WWF the sightings that we have during our game drives and boat cruises with our guests.

We are also involved in supporting the local conservancy in their wildlife relocation and management.

Among the Wildlife that can be found in the area we have: Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, Impalas, Hyenas, Kudu, Letchwe, Sitatunga, Klipspinger, Duiker, Honeybadger, Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Banded Mangose, Yellow Mangose, Wattled Cranes, Yellow Billed stark, Open Billed stark, Marabu, Pelicans, Mangrove Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Malakite Kingfisher, Brown headed Kingfisher, Gray Headed Kingfisher

Community

Nkasa Lupala tented lodge is a partnership between the private sector and the local community from the WUPARO Conservancy.

The Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN), in partnership with the Namibian Association of Community Based Natural Resource Management Support Organisations (NACSO) has established an award to recognize tourism in Namibia's conservancies. The first Conservancy Tourism Award was presented to representatives of the Wuparo Conservancy and Nkasa Lulapa Lodge.

The lodge management and Conservancy members were recognized not only for the lodges’ stunning facilities, variety of activities and friendly staff, but also for the positive nature in which negotiations were held between the lodge owners and conservancy members in developing their joint venture partnership, the latest of 40 conservancy joint venture properties in Namibia. In addition to extensive training commitments, 90% of employees come from the local community and the conservancy receives an escalating percentage of net profits, based on business performance.

We are also very committed in supporting the local farmes by buying theirs products for the lodge needs.

A program to support the orphans of the community has just been lunched in Sangwali. In cooperation with the NGO Educational and Training for Children, we are planning to sponsor a Kindergarten.
