Environment
Little Cayman Beach Resort strives to encourage recycling throughout our property and promotes water and energy conservation to our guests and employees. In addition, the Cayman Island government has very strict laws regarding our marine park in an effort to protect our unique underwater environment. Our trained dive staff follows these laws carefully to preserve the coral and fish that surround our beautiful island.
Our wildlife, including marine animals and local iguana population, are strictly protected and we encourage our guests to follow these guidelines closely.
Because our resort maintains our own water plant, we stress to our guests the importance of water conservation throughout the resort.
Staff has taken a pro-active interest by using assigned cups provided to each employee by the resort to reduce waste for use during meal periods and throughout the day.
All staff meals are served on green bio-degradable plates.
All hotel equipment is powered off after opening hours.
Monitoring climate controlled rooms and public areas with respect to air conditioning use and proper insulation and sealing.
The Little Cayman Beach Resort is tremendously excited and honored to have received its Green Globe Certification. Our commitment to Green Globe practices is demonstrated in our daily operations whereby all departments work with the common goal of becoming more environmentally conscience and aware of our impact on the environment.
Community
1. Our island has approximately 150 residents so it is essential for our community to support one another and to promotes local businesses whenever possible.
2. We encourage all staff to assist us in maintaining the preservation and beauty of our entire community.
3. We are actively involved with the Central Caribbean Marine Institute and Little Cayman Research Center to research projects on reef resiliency, coral diseases, coral recruitment, coral fluorescence, deep and shallow reef connectivity, ICON/CREWS monitoring, invasive species, etc. We also organize weekly tours of the institute for guests.
4. The Cayman Island government has specific laws and regulations regarding the hiring of Caymanians along with compensation and work environment requirements. These regulations are adhered to closely.
5. Little Cayman does not currently have local artisans, food, etc., however, we do strive to hire locally whenever possible.
6. We encourage our resort guests to visit our local museums and nature parks.
7. Little Cayman Beach Resort's kitchen returns all milk crates loaded with incoming freight on the outbound barge to reduce landfill impact.
8. The resort returns bottles to Cayman Islands Brewery and utilizes draft beer served with re-usable kegs - also recycled to Cayman Islands Brewery.
9. The resort has constructed and started a nursery for possible future cooking ingredients such as fruits and vegetables.
