Responsible tourism: Copenhagen city centre hotel, Denmark
Hotel Maritime is a member of the worldwide available Green Key® eco-label. We work methodically and constantly to reduce the hotel's CO2-emission by saving water and by reducing the overall consumption of electricity and heating. Special water saving filters are installed everywhere, and we collect rain water to water our plants during the summer season. Electricity saving technology, for instance energy saving bulbs, are constantly reviewed and replaced with better alternatives. We avoid toxic and harmful substances weherever possible, for instance when choosing detergents for cleaning. We sort our waste in order to recycle as much as possible, and we have lately started a process to increase the ratio of ecological food items on our breakfast buffet.
We know our part of the inner city very well, and we are full members of the local residents' and businesses' organisations. We support local charities and non-profit humanitarian organisations like Danner (for women and children exposed to domestic violence), Kofoeds School (provides help to people with socio-economical problems) and the Salvation Army (general aid to impoverished individuals and families in Copenhagen). We offer our staff good working conditions, including fair wages above the tariffs agreed between the labour unions and the employors' organisations. We encourage our guests to walk, to use one of the hotel's rental bikes, or to use public transportation during their stay.
