Flinders Range accommodation in South Australia
How Flinders Range accommodation in South Australia makes a difference
Environment
We have worked hard over the past few years to ensure our impact on the environment is minimal. We anticipate the new Grid Connect Solar System and Solar Hot Water Service will be installed by the end of March, 2012. We currently buy a portion of green energy through our electricity supplier AGL. New additions to our rain water tank supply will enable us to run Nuccaleena Cottage entirely on harvested rain water (with the exception of the gardens). We mulch our gardens well and have planted drought tolerant plants which are dripper fed. We are completing renovations on our bathroom to make it more water efficient while at the same time keeping it stylish and modern.
We use energy efficient lighting and ensure window treatments and verandahs maximise natural warmth in winter and cooling in summer. We have a successful recycling program facilitated by our local Council, we provide guests with detailed information so that they can make informed, environmentally responsible decisions about their consumption and waste. We research our appliances and buy only those with good energy and water ratings.
Our continued commitment to the environment along with the quality of your stay is a priority and we value and act upon any feedback received.
Community
Orroroo is a close knit small country town that thrives on community spirit and volunteers. It is imperative that we work together in a collaborative effort to ensure the town’s future success. Part of this success is generated by tourism. Tourism has a flow on effect within our community. We support the local businesses by not only buying produce/items locally wherever possible, but we also recommend them to our guests through web/writing and conversation. In turn they provide a warm country welcome and hospitality to tourists and promote our business.
Country sport plays an important role in our town and we do our best in supporting local sporting teams through business sponsorship. We are also involved in coaching, playing, supporting and organising sporting events. Particularly those involving our children.
We promote upcoming events in our region on our website and in our correspondence with guests. We are members of the Flinders Ranges Tourism Operators Association where we network with other businesses and can seek mentoring and advice from relevant guest speakers.
Our ideology is that if we can work together to keep the tourists in our area/region by offering great products and services, it’s got to benefit all of us in the long run.
