We hope that in our small way by changing bulbs, reusing, recycling, double glazing, insulating, using local produce and tradesmen as well as Fair Trade products and encouraging others to enjoy our beautiful countryside without using their cars we are worthy of our Silver Award for Green Tourism and that we hope that we can help to encourage others to do the same.
We take part in village clean-ups when they happen. We also belong to the local Woodland Trust which helps with keeping our local Wildcat Trail in good condition as well as tree-planting etc. I also am part of our Church Community Garden Committee. We are also members of Highland Wildlife Park which is part of Edinburgh Zoological Society.
We have replaced nearly all light bulbs with low-energy ones. We also have more showers than baths in our home and we are in the process of replacing all windows with double glazing and putting more insulation in the loft. We have reduce our water usage by placing objects in cisterns and collecting rainwater in a water butt for car washing and garden watering etc. We also have a menu that you can choose from the night before so that we know in advance what your breakfast requirements are thus reducing wastage on food unnecessarily cooked and not used.
We recycle paper/tins/glass and garden/kitchen waste. We also recycle clothes, household goods etc through our local charity shop. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and most of electrical appliances are either A or B rated, and we also use recycled products ie kitchen, toilet paper and stationary. We try and shop locally as much as possible using our local butcher and co-op where we buy Scottish produce and fair trade produce as much as possible. We also use local plumbers, electricians and joiners.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
