How this holiday makes a difference

Tourism is changing rapidly as nature, heritage and recreational destinations become more important to the traveler, and as conventional tourism is forced to meet tougher environmental requirements. This change is a challenge to the farm people to develop new approaches to the tourism market. Our goal is to enable visitors to learn about the natural, historical and cultural characteristics of our area and to enjoy their stay, while we give importance to preserving the integrity of such a unique place.

Therefore, all houses at our Zakynthos holiday accommodation follow the principles of our architectural heritage, and are placed in harmony within their natural surroundings, contributing to preserving local architectural style and sustainable tourism development. With our organic products our guests can taste pure flavors and become familiar with the local cuisine and Mediterranean diet.

We encourage visitors to use our free provided mountain bikes to explore the area, offering a way of moving around friendly to the environment. Horse riding gives the visitor the chance of a different way of discovering nature, combining sports with fun. Walking paths and dirt tracks are suggested for enjoying and appreciating our natural surroundings.

We inform our visitors about our area and encourage them to visit the environmental information center. We advise visitors to use water and power sparingly and avoid wasting our energy and water resources. We minimize power consumption by using energy saving bulbs, solar power for hot water, and special contacts that will not allow our air-conditioning units to operate while doors or windows remain open. We also recycle our wastewater, using it for watering our plants.

We provide a full time income to two local people and local families own every service we recommend or routinely make use of – taxis, car hire, boat hire. Restaurants suggested are all owned and run by local families and, local mini markets are supported by encouraging our guest to do their shopping at them. The economy of the village therefore benefits from every guest being here.

Being the first organic farm in our village we have contacted our village’s primary school and offered free visits, so kids can learn and appreciate the organic way of farming. School has accepted and local children are already aware of organic farming practices and sustainable agriculture, giving this way the local future generations the chance of managing the environment in a better way.

Zakynthos holiday accommodation in Greece

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Where to start......we were staying at Logothetis with our 3 yr old daughter so we could have been a bit restricted in activities, but the mountain bikes had a child seat so we were able to take her off road and to the beach and she loved those bumpy rides. Swimming in the sea - calm enough for her to gain confidence and learn to swim and sandy enough for sand castles when she was tired. Boat trip with Mario - an enjoyable day snorkelling and learning about turtles. Of course our girl loved all the animals around the farm.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take cash - there is hardly anywhere takes cards. You need cash to eat out, even to book a ferry or bus journey if going to another island, though the supermarket will take cards and is also a good source of information. Use mosquito nets at night and maybe think about a repellent. Take some bite ointment as well. Go in September - warm but not so busy. May not need a car much unless you have young children or want to explore further up the island.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I hope so - we shopped in the market at the end of the farm drive on our bikes. We ate in local restaurants again using the bikes to get there. We only used the car to visit Argassi and this would have been in cycling distance if we didn't have our daughter. There are several nice beaches in cycling distance also. We also used produce from the farm itself which we enjoyed very much.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great - we loved being on a farm with animals and olive trees all around. We found the area had a rural feel. The beaches were lovely and the sea clear and easy to swim in. We liked not needing to use a car much. We thought we would explore the island but we only really used the surrounding few miles - everything we needed was there. Dionyssis was an excellent host and the house was spacious and pleasant. We will be very tempted to go back soon. (I've been far too spoilt in pre-child years to give it a 5 star but its up there with the best ones).
