description
The Chittaranjan Palace, built for Mysore's royal princesses, has been lovingly restored as the Green Hotel. Set in extensive gardens, with formal lawns and shaded pergolas, the Green Hotel is an oasis of calm. It is a place where people relax, read or paint on the lawns under the shade of a tropical tree.
The hotel has thirty modern and comfortable bedrooms. The rooms are simply furnished with mainly local handicrafts. The palace, with its spacious sitting rooms and verandas is available for use by all guests.

rooms, food and facilities
There is a specially selected library, with a collection of modern Indian literature. Guests can further play chess, carom, croquet and boules. The hotel offers a comprehensive range of freshly prepared meals, using only local produce. A highlight of the local social calendar is the Sunday brunch with many local families coming to enjoy the setting as well as the food.
A fantastic building with plenty of reception rooms to play chess, chat, read and relax. The food was wonderful and the rooms, if a little on thesmall side, were quaint and interesting. What the site doesn't mention wasthat they have cheaper travellers' rooms in the gardens which could be agood budget alternative.

The idea of our hotel originated in 1993 when Hilary Blume, Founder of the Charities Advisory trust, UK visited Mysore. She decided that it would make sense to generate funds in India for charitable purposes rather than simply sending donations. The self sustaining hotel distributes all profits to charitable and environmental projects in the area. Money has been donated to housing projects for former homeless families, funding provided for poor school girls and medical centres.
Within the hotel there are no air conditioners, ventilation is achieved with cross drafts. There are no televisions in any of the 30 rooms. There is solar heating and low energy lighting. Compost and gobar gas plants have been installed in the grounds. Traditional methods of washing laundry are used rather than machines, this contributes to maintaining higher staff numbers and reduces the harmful effects on the environment.
The restaurants and kitchen are open to view like the trendiest restaurant and organic herbs are grown in gardens that have won Mysores top garden awards for the past 3 years.
Only local products are bought and no packaged food is used. The hotel practices a large emphasis on improving the social environment for the local people. Staff are recruited locally, giving priority to widows or those from lower casts. All staff are paid a higher wage than local employment in order to help reduce the number of people living on the poverty line.
