introduction to Siolim Goa, hotel accommodation
Siolim Goa, hotel accommodation
If you are looking to spend a holiday in Goa, India, this house is now ready to welcome you. A recently restored 300 year old Portuguese era manor house that once belonged to a governor of Macau.
After an extensive restoration that lasted more than three and a half years, we have opened the house to welcome discerning guests looking for something other than a 'five star' Goa hotel. The entire restoration of the House was done with a view to it being a home, and therefore we were very generous in our use of space with only seven bedrooms in the twenty four room house.
The Siolim Goa, hotel accommodation has a large garden bursting bouganvilla bushes and fragrant trees and a pergola in what we call the "secret garden". The house is a private experience for travellers who know that there is no other way to travel! Goa is a fantastic destination to visit with very little rain during the dry season between October - May.
We hate to call the house any thing but a home, so call it yours while you enjoy your holiday and unwind on nearby beaches, that are among Goa's most wonderful. Once our guests visit nearby Mandrem, Morjim and Ashwem beaches they can never go anywhere else, it is hugely fortunate to be located so close to these beaches where you can really feel you own miles of empty beaches. You can also enjoy Goa's alternative culture or see Goa's historical and cultural sights.
We are hugely fortunate in being located so close to the sea, where you can really find you own miles of empty Goa beaches. Other activities include massage, yoga, ayurvedic treatments, bicycles for use at liberty, boules, badminton, walks and trekking. We can help you organise excursions and tailormade itineraries to discover the area. A car with driver, and Honda scooters are available at an extra charge.

rooms, food and facilities
Today this small boutique Goa hotel is an exceptional example of Goan architecture - a fusion of European and Indian styles in what was the earliest permanent meeting for the two cultures. There are four guest rooms in the front building and three in the rear around the pillared courtyard. Macao and Malabar are the suites, with the latter having 2 large bedrooms, ideal for a family of four. We fondly refer to Macao as our 'nuptial' suite!
Each room or suite has attached tastefully designed large bathrooms with hot and cold water showers with good pressure. There are ceiling fans in all rooms and an inner pillared courtyard with a mosaic fountain and a step well that provides water for the house.
.
There is a a fully equipped kitchen, and we offer an "all meals plan" with fresh fish each morning (you can come with us to examine the catch) including Pomfret, Snapper, Rock Bass, Crab, Shellfish, Mussels and lots more...
You can enjoy the TV/games room, several large halls, and an 12.5 m overflow swimming pool, great for laps! Other amenities include telephone and free broadband wireless LAN
Family friendly accommodation: We welcome families with children & babies. Macao suite is ideal for a family of four and small children or babies can be accomodated with extra beds/cots; a 'kids' room can have up to 3 children. The pool has a dedicated child area, babysitters are easily available and our staff are very attentive.

how this holiday makes a difference
The restoration of our accommodation from a derelict shell into the stunning hotel enabled the property to become a UNESCO Heritage Finalist in 2002.The completed building has raised the awareness of the richness of Indo-Portuguese architecture - the first permanent meeting of West and East from 1532 AD. During the restoration only local artisans and building materials were used - no concrete was used anywhere. There is no air conditioning as passive cooling techniques are employed and waste minimisation practices are adhered to with the recycling of organic matter and little use of packaged products. Located further north than the main tourist areas, this hotel not only brings well needed income into the area but also ensure an authentic Goan holiday. All the local employees have the opportunity for a direct financial interest in the property. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
