how this holiday makes a difference
The building was designed by the architect Domenech i Montaner. The architect Ángel García Puertas, worked on rebuilding this 1920´s masia as well as working on the interior design. The building has been lovingly restored and shows the history of modernism in Catalonia. We feel very strongly about supporting the local community. 80% of our staff are from the local area. We provide training to our staff. The highlight of our staff training programme is managed by Joaquin Koerper in the kitchen (he has in total 6 Michelin stars). We have local training programmes with specialized schools in the area. We support local Catalonia producers by selling and displaying their products in the hotel. We buy direct from local producers when sourcing the food served at the hotel. We have a policy of material recycling. We have started an environmental managing programme, which is including separation of recycling materials, through all hotel departments. Air conditioning sensors are installed in all rooms using key entry activated system. In terms of economic and social regeneration we support the local hazelnut producers though a project called Hazelnut Cuisine. Hazelnut farming is the traditional economic activity in the local community. In the area we produce the 99% of the Spanish total production. Due to cheaper and lower quality imports local farmers have suffered. This is why we have helped to facilitate the alliance of the most prestigious restaurants in the area with the cooperation of Catalan Tourism. The aim is to buy direct from the farmers and to encourage increased sales not only from an economic point of view but so not to loose the heritage of the area. If you are looking for a Catalonia luxury hotel that values the heritage and sustainable development of Catalonia then look no further. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
