The nature studies room and the library are wonderful resources for checking on sightings and catching up on the finer points of natural history. All our staff are qualified ecologists or have an interest in sustainable living and organic gardening - we enjoy sharing our knowledge and experiences with guests and will be delighted to discuss your interests.

Feel at one with the world: Powered entirely by the sun, and designed with passive solar principles, our Great Ocean Road accommodation collects its water from the skies and leaves an almost imperceptible footprint upon the earth. You will enjoy the hot showers and the glow of the reading light so much more, knowing that they are environmentally sound.

rooms, food and facilities
Bedroom at Great Ocean Road eco lodge Sleep peacefully: Your bedroom is private and peaceful, furnished with a comfortable bed, crisp clean linen, and timeless antiques and your ensuite bathroom is equipped with fluffy towels and an assortment of locally made natural soaps and shampoos. From every window the views over the Otway Ranges or kangaroo meadows are breathtaking and the dawn chorus is magical.

Taste the Otways: Our chefs create fabulous feasts from fresh local produce, much of it grown in the lodge’s own kitchen garden. Breakfast and dinner are served in the great hall and are always a wonderful occasion.

Kitchen garden at Great Ocean Road eco lodgeThe wild kangaroos often gather nearby to graze in the early mornings and evenings. Watching the young kangaroo bucks play-fighting and the does tending their joeys is a very special experience. We are fully licensed and offer a range of superb wines from wineries in the Otways and beyond.

Stay in touch: Cape Otway is beyond the reaches of television reception and mobile phone reception is quite patchy so you will have a chance to escape completely........but only if you want to! If you do need to keep in touch with work or home we have a wireless broadband network which is available to our guests free of charge.

Children exploring Great Ocean Road eco lodge Family and baby friendly: Children are the environmentalists of tomorrow and we enjoy sharing the wonder of the Australian bush with them! We offer a special orientation, fun children's ecology experiences and children's beds or cots. For older children we are happy to arrange a twin share room adjoining your own. Children are invited to assist the chefs in gathering organic vegetables from the kitchen garden, which are used to create special, nutritious children’s meals. The library contains a special children’s section.

We are pleased to assist with planning your family’s itinerary based on your children’s ages and interests.

Disabled access: The lodge is very accessible for guests with limited mobility – please contact us; we can make just about anything happen and would be pleased to discuss your special requirements.

Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation" (Ecotourism Australia). We are committed to the principles of Ecotourism and are proud to be accredited at the highest level.

All our operations encompass our core values of integrity and responsibility. We operate in a socially, environmentally and economically responsible manner. Our vision is to increase understanding and conservation of Australian ecosystems through wildlife rehabilitation and ecological research, while inspiring and involving people through ecotourism. We operate a 24 hour wildlife shelter on site, rescuing and rehabilitation injured and orphaned wildlife. We specialise in the care of marsupials.

We work with local communities, businesses and individuals to encourage sustainable land use and to develop sustainable tourism opportunities that help our local economy while minimizing negative environmental and cultural impacts. We live here and employ local staff at all levels of our organisation. We also provide opportunities for work placement for Australian and international students interested in truly sustainable tourism, habitat restoration, wildlife husbandry and biodiversity conservation.

We believe that an authentic travel experience can be a life changing event - our goal is to offer experiences which create a positive impact on the land and a lasting impression for those who travel with us by interpreting the natural environment to create awareness and identifying opportunities for self-discovery.
