how this holiday makes a difference
|
We ensure that guests at our Malta boutique hotel enjoy a pleasant, safe and responsible stay whilst respecting and maintaining the natural habitat of our islands.
We support a charity by donating money every month/year to AX Foundation and by telling our guests about them. This foundation has been set up to help the improvement of poverty, social, mental and physical hardship. They have organised various activities to raise funds for equipment for local institutions, such as the provision of physiotherapy equipment for Id-Dar tal-Providenza, night stands for the Little Sisters of the Poor Home, kitchen equipment for Caritas and rubber matting for the play area of St. Francis de Paule Home in Birkirkara, as well as sponsorship for a two-year period for two youths from the Osanna Pia Hostel to continue with their studies. Donations were also contributed to local associations. Furniture, fittings and sanitary ware were shipped for the opening of a newly built hospital in Guatemala. Upholstery material, bedding and furniture were also provided to local institutions. We encourage our guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce. We also encourage our guests to use public transport or local services. An environmental committee is present at the hotel to take actions on the environmental goals. Training given to employees on environmental good practices. Every month the staff has a departmental meeting and they are reminded to save energy and to separate waste. We are continually monitoring negative environmental impacts. We inform and encourage guests to participate in its water saving programs and in its energy saving programs. All staff are locally employed and are mainly all Maltese. We use local services such as builders/electricians/plumbers for the maintenance of the property. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
