  • how this holiday makes a difference
The concept behind this boutique hotel experience is a combination of beautiful surroundings, direct involvement from native Bedouins and high level of comfort for our guests without compromising our responsible manners in the daily operation.

    Environment:
Energy resources - With a high level of comfort at the hotel, we are committed to keep the energy usage as low as possible, and remind our guests about that fact that energy is a precious resource in this desert area. Our guests receive pre arrival information with simple suggestions on energy conservation. The message is reinforced in our room pack where our guests will find specific advice on how to be responsible guests at the hotel and in the Sinai. The staff is also made aware of the often simple ways to minimize the use of energy resources.

Waste management - All organic waste is delivered directly to local Bedouin woman and sustains a number of herds of goats. Non organic waste is collected by the EU funded waste collection company "Hemeya" and sent to Cairo for recycling. We encourage our guests to bring their waste back to the hotel, where we can handle it in a responsible manner.

    Community:
Ownership - As the tourism industry has developed in the Sinai, international corporations and private investors have taken over Bedouin land. Even though many Bedouins are employed in local businesses, they have to a large extend lost the chance to independently benefit from the development. Therefore, we are proud of our successful cooperation with native Bedouins. The land at the hotel still belongs to native Bedouins and the operation of the hotel generates an income for them and their families. In the daily life at the hotel, Bedouins are joining as friends and partners, and we are pleased to let our guests find the Bedouins as proud owners of a beautiful property.

Language training - We offer our Egyptian and Bedouin staff weekly English lessons, where the Bedouins related to the hotel are also welcome. In this way, we don't just train the staff for service purposes, but also open the possibility for direct contact with tourists and eliminate the need for middlemen for communication purposes.

Surroundings - The beautiful surroundings are admired by our guests, and we promote experiences and activities that directly benefit Bedouins, such as authentic mountain dinners, desert safaris, camel treks etc. When diving or snorkelling, our guests are informed about the necessary precautions to not harm the fragile reef. This is also mentioned in the room pack.

Decoration - Along with restored antique woodcraft furniture and a simple but complete earth colour design, the rooms feature handmade decoration made of local Bedouin woman connected to the EU supported project "Fan Sinai" ("Art of Sinai").

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
