The Eco Villas are solar powered and virtually self sustaining. Excess power generated by solar panels is diverted into the retreat grid and used where needed. All Eco Villas contain the latest in energy monitoring systems allowing guests to monitor and adjust their individual energy consumption throughout their stay. The patented designs of our Eco Villas and tents ensure they capture the best of the afternoon breezes, ensuring maximum ventilation and encouraging minimal use of fans and air conditioning.
All boardwalks, verandahs and Eco Tent floors are made from “Eco Decking” - a composite wood decking which contains recycled polypropylene plastics and wood bi-products. All bathroom cosmetics are made from natural products anf toilets, sink taps and shower heads are all “Lo-flo”. We don’t provide televisions in any of our accommodation, and all cleaning products are made from biodegradable materials. All waste water at the retreat is recycled and used to water the landscaped grounds. All paper products are made from recycled stock. Our activities are all wilderness based and encourage appreciation and respect for the natural environment. No motor vehicles are allowed within the retreat. We employ local and indigenous people, and we encourage educational trips by local schools and organizations. We support Conservation Volunteers Australia with their annual nesting turtle program. We have a wildlife rehabilitation centre and an ongoing native tree and bush rehabilitation program. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
