I hesitate to write this review for selfish reasons. Why? Because this holiday is so wonderful I'd rather keep it a secret! Situated on the southern slopes of Mt Batakaru in remotest Bali, this place is a pocket of paradise, far removed from the ravages of the 21st century. Having spent a week there I did not want to leave.  (more)

Honeymoon Holidays and Honeymoon Tours

Weddings can take up a lot of time and energy which is exactly why you should choose a honeymoon that allows you to relax and enjoy each others company. It is worth doing some research on your honeymoon ideas as (hopefully) it will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Most travel agents offer a selection of honeymoon holiday packages and will be able to discuss fulfilling your requirements.

The most important thing is to decide what you want from your honeymoon, whether it is lazing in the sun by a pool, exploring interesting cities, or learning a new skill. There are many honeymoon ideas out there; you just need to find one that suits both your personalities. When discussing the honeymoon holiday package in your chosen destination you should to be sure of the climate, language, currency, local customs, visa requirements and immunization advice.

Some couples prefer to steer away from the classic honeymoon holidays, such as the beach destinations like the Maldvies and Mauritius, particularly those who can’t afford to splash out on expensive, two-week-long honeymoons. Honeymoon holidays can be taken closer to home, you can rent out a quaint UK country cottage for a secluded romantic break. Or you can take honeymoon tours in Europe, staying on back-to-nature camp sites in luxurious yurts which offer comfortable beds and starlit nights. There are more alternative honeymoons than you can dream of; it is definitely a good idea to explore the options before you book.

Exotic Honeymoon Destinations

For those craving exotic honeymoon escapes, which offer a truly different experience to your daily lives, it is worth separately jotting down what you envision from the exotic honeymoon destinations you are considering. Is it rainforest you want? Or desert? Or untouched beaches? Or weird and wonderful wildlife?

Some of the best honeymoon destinations in the world can combine at least two of these. Borneo, for example, offers exotic honeymoons where you can stay in rustic lodges on beautiful beaches, see orangutans and turtles and take a jungle cruise, away from the crowds. Sri Lanka, could be considered one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world as it is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean, perfect for a romantic getaway, that offers relaxing beaches, great culture and a real taste of wildlife and adventure. Other favourite exotic honeymoons include India, the Caribbean and Thailand.

Adventurous Honeymoons

If you prefer the idea of adventure honeymoons, consider Peru, where you can explore the Sacred Valley and the legendary Machu Picchu. You can even combine this trip with a visit to the enchanted islands of the Galapagos, famous for unique flora and fauna. Other adventurous honeymoon ideas include taking a safari in Africa, where you can experience the pristine wilderness regions of Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania. It is worth researching all types of holidays for adventure honeymoon ideas as most agencies can tailor make any holiday to suit your unique needs.

Weddings Abroad

Looking into weddings abroad is a good idea. Choosing a foreign setting for your big day can often save you thousands of pounds and getting married overseas can often be very romantic. Try St Lucia for a tropical paradise setting for your big day, or Tobago, which is ideal for a beach reception with an ocean backdrop and romantic sunsets.

Another popular alternative to the high stress Western weddings is to tie the knot in Thailand, Chiang Mai weddings have an authentic Thai rural flavour, set in tropical gardens flanked by the Royal Forest. Sri Lanka is also a great destination for weddings abroad. The wedding ceremonies are conducted according to Buddhist religious and cultural rites going back thousands of years and are a colourful vibrant experience. For a really unique experience, you can opt for a wedding in Lapland, Finland, where you can hold the ceremony in a candlelit igloo or stand before an ice altar in the middle of a frozen lake.

Honeymoon Gift Lists and Honeymoon Vouchers

Many couples choose to have a honeymoon gift list which allows friends and family to contribute toward their dream honeymoon. Alternatively you could request travel agent’s honeymoon vouchers in your guest invitations. The advantage of using honeymoon vouchers as wedding lists is that you can select from hundreds of holidays to suit all tastes and budgets, ranging from luxurious beach retreats, African safaris and iconic adventures through to cosy English B&Bs and European villas. So you'll have plenty to choose from when deciding where to go on your honeymoon.
