Looking at rainfall charts March/April looks best but within that time frame, we want to choose the busiest times. In the UK, spring holidays are the beginning of April but I believe US spring breaks are earlier so don't know when will be quietest.

Replies from those in the know appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Graham,

I think that most times of the year are generally good. Just make sure that you avoid the late summer months of June - September as this is monsoon season. I went in October and it was a bit cloudy but generally good.

Busiest time for Cancun is actually over the summer (surprisingly) as this attracts lots of Americans on their summer break (not so surprisingly)

Otherwise busy times are always going to be over school holidays, so christmas and easter. I couldn't say which break will be busier but going on logic I would say that the US break will make it busier - as US population is 5 times bigger than ours and it is a more populer location for americans as it is a lot closer.

I don't know if that helps at all?? It depend where you go in the Yucutan, the main highlights will always be busy and personally i'd rather go when it's quieter!

Regards

Hi Kristin!

Weather wise, Jan is a great time to visit Mexico overall. It's not too hot and you're not in the rainy season either. However, Mexico is a big place so i'd pick where you want to go and check out the weather for that area before you book. You might also want to check out what festivals are going on over Xmas. I know that San Christoban has a festival going on over xmas so you might want to try and include that? Here's an indepth article on xmas in Mexico [web link] Or here is a calendar of events [web link]
I went to Mexico a couple of years ago and spent my time in the Yucatan, lots of lovely eco lodges here (look left, we have lots of our responsibletravel.com website) beautiful beaches, mayan ruins. Or you might want to head north to Mexico city or the drier, more desert like Northern Mexico. Both areas have a lot to offer and are very different so worth researching more.

The dry season in Peru runs from December to March so Jan is a good time to go. Lots of people celebrate xmas (or Navidad over there) in Peru too. Looks like Cusco is the place to be for many of the bigger events (see this calendar of festivals here [web link] I think decide what you want for Christmas (beach, staying with locals, trekking, ranforest etc) as that may dictate which country you should spend it in.

I hope that helps!
