I am a grandmother of four and have travelled independently to many countries since retiring but for the past 4 years I have been returning to Uganda I have helped a small community in the south west Uganda to open a Guest House that is suitable for volunteers to stay awhile - and then help in the local schools, our own nursery school and with womens groups in the area. I am now actively looking for volunteers to go out there - and be sure that any money they spend - either at the Lodge (£50 per week for full board & accommodation) will stay within and ultimately help that community See www.ugandalodge.com |

I have been independently travelling in Africa for 20 years and have recently set up my own travel company called From Here 2 Timbuktu. I specialise in taking people across the Sahara and on small group tours in West Africa, principally Mali, Cameroon and Senegal. I do a 6 month journey from the UK and you may join me for 2 weeks or more of Faraway Festivals, tribal trips, river cruises and gorilla trekking. All of my trips take people to some of the remote communities that I have befriended on my travels, to far and distant places as my company name suggests. I have long felt that tourism in Africa tends to concentrate on the wild life and the landscape whilst the most exciting, vibrant and inspiring side of Africa - its diverse people and their extraordinary cultures - passes by the window of the 4x4. The aim is to give people that independent travel experience without the hassle, to get you right out there into the back and beyond and to put something back into some comunitiies which are very dear to my heart. |

I love to discover new places with a relaxed atmosphere and quirky local customs and stories. I hate the herd instinct! |

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime” – Mark Twain I live in New York City but leave as often as I can. I am a dedicated traveller and a passionate animal lover - I have 3 dogs and a cat so it is a rough combination but they are always well cared for when I am on the road. I have travelled extensively throughout North and South America, Asia, The Middle East, and East Africa. I have loved and appreciated all of my journeys but some standouts are Croatia, Easter Island, The Galapagos, Borneo, Nepal, India, Cambodia, Egypt and Zanzibar. The hands down best experience I have ever had was gorilla trekking in the Congo, followed by visiting orangutans in Borneo as a close second. My next planned trips are to Bhutan this spring, and would like to get to Australia and New Zealand soon after that. |

I have alway enjoyed travel since being a child touring the British Isles and Europe with my parents. Everything from camping to 5 star hotels. As an Adult I have travelled and worked in the US and Africa. I enjoy meeting the locals finding out about the culture as well as sight seeing. I enjoy touring by car and have been lucky enought to learn to sail and fly as a private pilot. |

I work for a project called Hidden Britain, working with community groups in the South East of England to develop tourism. I live in Hove but have also lived in the British Virgin Islands, Rome, Egypt and Madagascar. In my job I'm enjoying discovering lovely towns, villages and countryside on my doorstep, having travelled and worked all over the world, but still keen to see new places beyond the UK as well, especially sunny places..... |
