I am a grandmother of four and have travelled independently to many countries since retiring but for the past 4 years I have been returning to Uganda I have helped a small community in the south west Uganda to open a Guest House that is suitable for volunteers to stay awhile - and then help in the local schools, our own nursery school and with womens groups in the area. I am now actively looking for volunteers to go out there - and be sure that any money they spend - either at the Lodge (£50 per week for full board & accommodation) will stay within and ultimately help that community See www.ugandalodge.com |

I really enjoy my trekking and any active holiday - I've a boredom threshold of about 2 hours so beach holidays are definatly out! Favorite country I've visited is Nepal by a mile, the people are the friendlest I've come across and the mountains are awesome, can't wait to head back there! |

I am a Brit and one of the owners (along with my partner James- USA and Beat - SWISS) of a tour operator based in Guatemala that offers tours to Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. I have a baby daughter so Im learning to be a mum! I started working life as a mechanical engineer then went travelling and ended up volunteering and working for Save The Children in Columbia and Peru. After that I travelled throughout the Americas - driving from Guatemala to Canada before going back to work but this time in LA. I met James in LA (Helicopter Pilot) and we hatched a plan to start a travel company in Guatemala - a place we both loved - and the rest as they say is history!! |

I have been living in London for the last 12 years and loving every minute. My favourite place to travel to is Africa as I was born in Zambia and have lived in Zimbabwe. I have travelled extensively through Southern Africa and never tire of going back. A dream place for me to visit would be Ghana. |

I live and breath travel. It's what I do. Unfortunately, time, money and young children mean we don't get to explore the world as often as we would like so I relish and savour the times when I can travel, either for work or for pleaseure. My job takes me to Australia, my passion but I have been lucky enough to spend long periods in Africa too. I took my eldest son to India last year which was a first for us both and an amzing experience. Skiing is one holiday the whole family loves and we go every year. My kids are faster and more stylish than me these days which dents the confidence but it's great to see them having the time of their lives as they hurtle down piste after piste. Exploring Asia is next on my list but there are so many other places I am deperate to get to. The list just keeps getting longer.... |

I have been independently travelling in Africa for 20 years and have recently set up my own travel company called From Here 2 Timbuktu. I specialise in taking people across the Sahara and on small group tours in West Africa, principally Mali, Cameroon and Senegal. I do a 6 month journey from the UK and you may join me for 2 weeks or more of Faraway Festivals, tribal trips, river cruises and gorilla trekking. All of my trips take people to some of the remote communities that I have befriended on my travels, to far and distant places as my company name suggests. I have long felt that tourism in Africa tends to concentrate on the wild life and the landscape whilst the most exciting, vibrant and inspiring side of Africa - its diverse people and their extraordinary cultures - passes by the window of the 4x4. The aim is to give people that independent travel experience without the hassle, to get you right out there into the back and beyond and to put something back into some comunitiies which are very dear to my heart. |
