I am a grandmother of four and have travelled independently to many countries since retiring but for the past 4 years I have been returning to Uganda I have helped a small community in the south west Uganda to open a Guest House that is suitable for volunteers to stay awhile - and then help in the local schools, our own nursery school and with womens groups in the area. I am now actively looking for volunteers to go out there - and be sure that any money they spend - either at the Lodge (£50 per week for full board & accommodation) will stay within and ultimately help that community See www.ugandalodge.com |

I travelled quite extensively in my teens and twenties but after I had children it was mainly Disneyland. Now I am divorced and my children are grown and I think of travel again. I think of the Blue Mosque, travelling by camel from Cairo to the Pyramides, safaris and much more. |

I played the corporate game for a while, but found myself spending more time planning holidays than I was on my PowerPoint presentations. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to leave it behind and try something new for a while. I have been living in and around the Middle East for almost five years, involving myself in Arabic language studies, non-government work, and tourism (both being a tourist and leading tours). I am a dedicated traveller and a passionate animal lover - I have 3 dogs and a cat so it is a rough combination but they are always well cared for when I am on the road. I have travelled extensively throughout North and South America, Asia, The Middle East, and East Africa. I have loved and appreciated all of my journeys but some standouts are Croatia, Easter Island, The Galapagos, Borneo, Nepal, India, Cambodia, Egypt and Zanzibar. The hands down best experience I have ever had was gorilla trekking in the Congo, followed by visiting orangutans in Borneo as a close second. My next planned trips are to Bhutan this spring, and would like to get to Australia and New Zealand soon after that. |

My husband and I enjoyed traveling independent to most countries while we were ex-pats in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. We traveled from Bangkok to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam on our own, traveling mostly by bus and walking a lot in the cities. One of our greatest adventures, however, was traveling with our son and a group on the train from Beijing to Mongolia and Moscow, then onto St. Petersburg by ourselves. We had traveled by bus tour from Helsinki to St. Petersburg and Moscow the year before. |
