I'm a freelance writer and photographer specializing in travel, environmental issues, philanthropy, and international development.

As a journalist, I write for a variety of magazines, newspapers, and online publications, both in the United States and abroad. I write about various aspects of travel but am most passionate about responsible travel, sustainability, nature/wildlife/ecotourism, philanthropic travel/voluntourism, and authentic cultural interactions, as well as soft adventure (kayaking, hiking, camping, etc.). I'm also interested in emerging destinations and the things that make any destination unique.

As a copywriter, I work with businesses and organizations who want to stand out in a crowd. My clients include travel and outdoor recreation companies, cultural organizations, nonprofit organizations working on global issues, and businesses that are striving to be sustainable and socially responsible.

I've backpacked independently through many parts of the world and have led trips on five continents as a freelance tour manager.

I have been independently travelling in Africa for 20 years and have recently set up my own travel company called From Here 2 Timbuktu. I specialise in taking people across the Sahara and on small group tours in West Africa, principally Mali, Cameroon and Senegal. I do a 6 month journey from the UK and you may join me for 2 weeks or more of Faraway Festivals, tribal trips, river cruises and gorilla trekking. All of my trips take people to some of the remote communities that I have befriended on my travels, to far and distant places as my company name suggests.
I have long felt that tourism in Africa tends to concentrate on the wild life and the landscape whilst the most exciting, vibrant and inspiring side of Africa - its diverse people and their extraordinary cultures - passes by the window of the 4x4.

The aim is to give people that independent travel experience without the hassle, to get you right out there into the back and beyond and to put something back into some comunitiies which are very dear to my heart.

I love to discover new places with a relaxed atmosphere and quirky local customs and stories. I hate the herd instinct!

Adventure travel to the most out of the way and unexplored areas of the world is my passion. I've been to the Sahara, the Congo River basin, the Andes, and the Amazon. Swum with pink dolphins and whales, hunted with Pygmies, watched a silverback gorilla chastise his rebellious son, and drunk millet beer with a village chief. I now run DreamWeaver Travel Company and we specialize in offering others these kinds of experiences and in making our travel a positive thing for the communities we visit and the world at large.
