I have been independently travelling in Africa for 20 years and have recently set up my own travel company called From Here 2 Timbuktu. I specialise in taking people across the Sahara and on small group tours in West Africa, principally Mali, Cameroon and Senegal. I do a 6 month journey from the UK and you may join me for 2 weeks or more of Faraway Festivals, tribal trips, river cruises and gorilla trekking. All of my trips take people to some of the remote communities that I have befriended on my travels, to far and distant places as my company name suggests.
I have long felt that tourism in Africa tends to concentrate on the wild life and the landscape whilst the most exciting, vibrant and inspiring side of Africa - its diverse people and their extraordinary cultures - passes by the window of the 4x4.

The aim is to give people that independent travel experience without the hassle, to get you right out there into the back and beyond and to put something back into some comunitiies which are very dear to my heart.

Since beginning my career within the travel industry I have been fortunate to travel to some countries that I would never have thought of travelling to, especially during my time at Worldwide Holidays where I have travelled to 2 of my specialist countries, Jordan and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka really is paradise with a smile. There are so many different areas to explore and stunning beaches to relax. I found the contrast of areas in Jordan fascinating and learnt so much during my visit, I can’t wait to return to explore more of the wonders of Petra.

Africa and more importantly African wildlife are what I enjoy most. My best experience and greatest place had to be the Paperbark Bush Retreat in South Africa, where saw a wild black leopard. Other than Africa, I'd love to see a Polar Bear in the wild.

For me, the best bit of travelling is seeing the different cultures. How different all our lives are even though me inhabit the same planet! I am fortunate enough to work in the travel industry, specialising in Madagascar, Jordan, Cuba and Sri Lanka. Madagascar is just amazing – so different from anywhere else on earth. The plants and animals are the biggest draw, but for me it’s the wonderful, gentle people. I have a great interest in ancient cultures so both Jordan and Sri Lanka are just fascinating to me. How were those incredible ancient temples and cities built?
