Kuranda Station Cairns

Kuranda Station is best reached using the Skyrail - a canopy top cable car ride. The station is prety touristy, but there were three things we really enjoyed -

1. The animal park when you can cuddle a Koala!
2. The Bird Sanctuary - I've never seen such colourful birds
3. The Butterfly Sanctuary - this is even more colourful!

Skyrail in Cairns

Just 10 minutes outside Cairns is the extraordinary Skyrail - a 7.5km cable car over pristine North Queensland rainforest. The journey (flight?) is small cable cars skims the tops of the rainforest.

Whilst driving along the Garden Route we met a lovely couple who were very into their wine tasting - ie. knew what they were doing rather than trying everything twice just 'because you can !'. Volunteering holiday

One of the village kidsDuring August 2007 I spent the month doing voluntary work at a village called Mapoch. I helped set up a cycle project to bring cheap sustainable transport to a poor rural community.
I found out about Mapoch from a voluntary organisation called people and places, www.travel-peopleand places.co.uk, they send volunteers to Asia and Africa.

For walking you're spoilt for choice. Nyika plateau in the north has vast grassland plains and is especially good for flying fishing and hourse riding enthsiasts.
