I now recognise the important difference between the word trek and walk.
Waking up at 4.30am for an 8hour trek was fine, I had been on walks before, so I thought I knew what to expect.

We had packed our nutritionally balanced, backpacker cheap lunch of peanut butter sandwiches and fruit, along with a packet of 'starburst' that at the last minute my friend slipped into the pocket of her lime...more...

Backpacking around New Zealand a few years ago was made all the more easy when I decided to go in for a BBH card. Sky diving was a huge fear for me…. but turning up in Taupo, my partner insisted on booking their dive of a lifetime!
