Not too many years ago I spent a fair amount of my holiday time staying with friends in and around Buxton, a Spa town in Derbyshire, and in the centre of The Peak District.

Cycling in the Peak District

My friend lives just outside Sheffield along Snake Pass and persuaded me to go on a bike ride around his area of the Peaks. Now I cant wait to go back! Even though it was quite overcast, the Peaks were just breathtaking - lungfuls of fresh air, wide open skies, and all the purples and reds of the heathers more than made up for the Wintery day.

Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire

Until I was 8, I lived in Bolsover, a small mining town in Derbyshire. I recall the grand Bolsover castle http://www.derbyshireuk.net/bolsover_castle.html on the outskirts of the town but was too scared to really enjoy it having been told by an older, so-called friend (!) that a grey lady haunted the tower.

Chatsworth House - Derbyshire

This is one of the grandest houses in England - home to the Devonshire family, and until recently the Dowager Duchess Deborah (or Debo) one of the wonderful Mitford sisters (who know lives nearby).
