Adelaide city tours
Posted 21 Oct 2009 by Justin Francis
We took a walking tour with a local guide - Chris - who showed us all the places of interest. He was a mine of information and gave us a wonderful insight into the history of Adelaide, the important buildings and museums.

He also showed us the coolest places to get a coffe and to shop. We found it a great way to quickly get our bearings in Adelaide and get an insight into the city. Chris, wh...more...
The most luxurious hotel in the world

I work in travel, and have been lucky enough to stay at some really stunning places - but the Southern Ocean Lodge really takes the biscuit!

the views as you walk in will take your breath away - ocean to one side, wild bush to ther others - and not a building in sight.

If its a really special occasion then the Southern Ocean Lodge is a place that you will never forget. Their environmental c...more...
Kangaroo Island highlights

Kangaroo Island (over 100km long and 50km wide) is a short flight south from Adelaide. Here you will find stunning beaches - voted some of the best in all of Australia - some of which are home to sea lions that you can visit.

You will also find the 'remarkable rocks,' huge, hard granite rocks that have been carved by wind and sand into remrkable shapes - they do live up to their billing!

Rawnsley Park Station, Flinders Range
Posted 18 Oct 2009 by Justin Francis
Rawnsley Park is a 60,000 acre working sheep (Merino) station in the Flinders. Its a great base from which to explore the Flinders and accommodation ranges from camping, through to cabins or luxury eco villas where we were lucky enough to stay. There is a nice restuarant on site - the Woolshed - and your hosts Juile and Tony are super friendly and super nice.

One of the special feature of the...more...
Prairie Outback hotel

This is the quintissential outback bar and hotel. Depending on the time of your visit you are just as likely to find the bar full of local cowboys as tourists.

Its fun to just sit back and soak up the atmosphere, but if you are up for it then they offer Prairie food - kangaroo and the like.

There are some really nice rooms at the back, I was pleased to see how eco they are too. Book th...more...
Flinders National Park

The Flinders National Park is a paradise for those who love to walk, the hills are ancient (some of the oldest rocks in the world dating to 550 million years) and the scenery quite stunning.

We drove through the Brachnia Gorge and drove high into the hills to look at views over Wilpena Pound - a formation of rocks that's encloses an areas of land (used for grazing in the past) in the centre. ...more...
Wadlata Outback Museum at Port Augusta

This is one of the best museums we visited anywhere in Australia. Its particular strength is around the history of outback life, there are some very good exhibits. Really this is a must for anybody heading into the outback..

We especially enjoyed the old Ghan railway carriage - what a beautfully designed thing it is, memories from when travel really was a luxury, and this one of this most lu...more...
