Classic sailing on the River Orwell Posted 06 Apr 2009 by Kate Moore We went for a half day sailing on the River Orwell in a beautiful old yacht and I can safely say that half a day will have you gagging for more!Sailing seems to be the life blood of the area so there are lots of clubs to choose from, but I'd definitely recommend going with the Classic Sailing Club based in Woolverstone. They do everything from half days and bareboat charter hires to family we...more...
Exploring Suffolk by bike: from Pin Mill to Harkstead, Holbrook, Stutton and Tattingstone Posted 06 Apr 2009 by Kate Moore The Suffolk Peninsular between the River Orwell and the River Stour, East of Ipswich, is less than 2 hours from London and we had one of our best ever days out exploring the countryside and little villages on a couple of bikes. This is the route we took:Pin Mill, Chelmondiston to Holbrook and Lower Holbrook, then down to Harkstead, down to Stutton, around the Alton Water Reservoir and across...more...
The Butt and Oyster pub, Pin Mill, Suffolk Posted 06 Apr 2009 by Kate Moore The Butt and Oyster is a lovely little pub right in the hamlet of Pin Mill with views over the River Orwell. The food is fantastic, I’d recommend the fish (all local) or Suffolk steak. They’ve got all the local beers and it’s the perfect place for lunch or dinner after a long walk around the area, either along the river or after exploring the surrounding villages. You can read more about th...more...
Visit Thorpeness in Suffolk - Great for Families! Posted 23 Feb 2009 by philip dawes Thorpeness is a quirky village, largely created in the early 1900s by local landowner G.S. Ogilvie. Not many small villages can boast a golf club, tennis club, country club, windmill, cafe, pub, restaurant, shop - not to forget the large man-made Meare (a 65 acre shallow boating lake). On the Suffolk Heritage Coast just along from Aldeburgh it makes the perfect place for a relaxing stay. There are...more...
Latitude Festival, Suffolk Posted 13 May 2009 by Kate Moore Latitude is hosted in Henham Park, near Southwold and gets my vote for the best British festival. The grounds are beautiful, with lakes and forests and enough arenas to keep you very busy, and some go on all night. It's very relaxed, security isnt too heavy unlike some of the other festivals either. So much better than Glastonbury/Big Chill, I hope it doesnt get too big. You can get day ...more...
Peace & Quiet on the Suffolk Coast Posted 25 Mar 2009 by robert back The chance came up for a quick weekend away but where to go for two nights that's within a two hour drive from London? Well you can't really go wrong with the Suffolk Coastline and though it's only two hours drive up the A12 it may as well be on another planet!! OK we were there out of season but the roads were quiet, no crowds, villages unspoilt and picturesque and yes, in England, acres of blue ...more...
Day out in Walberswick Suffolk Posted 19 Jan 2009 by Kate Moore Walberswick is a perfect for a day's walking. Theres a lovely loop around the harbour from Southwold through the marshes, through designated SSI sites and 'areas of outstanding natural beauty'. Then you can clear away any cobwebs with a bracing walk along the beach where you'll probably meet the odd friendly dog walker and kite flyer, and then back through the village to the pub. I'd recommend...more...
