Turkish delights in Oxford Posted 09 Oct 2009 by clare fisher A friend of mine suggested Bar Meze http://www.bar-meze.co.uk/findus.html located in Headington, just outside of Oxford city centre for an evening meal with some friends. I was looking for somewhere different, but with a bit of character. Their website didn't suggest this - however as my friend kept telling me there was a large tree inside covered with fairly lights, I was convinced it would be wo...more...
Great place to stay in Pisa! Posted 26 Aug 2009 by Kim Lavin If you're planning on travelling to Pisa a great and relatively cheap hotel to stay at is the Hotel Bologna. It was immaculately clean throughout, with helpful staff and free toiletries. The breakfast is included in the room price and is a pretty standard continental breakfast with fresh fruit, toast, pastries, eggs, bacon etc. It has a lovely terrace in which you can sit after a long day a...more...
AMAZING cakes! Posted 26 Aug 2009 by Kim Lavin The best place to go in Brighton for a huge piece of cake and coffee when you're tired from shopping is the Choccywoccydoodah's cafe. Located in Middle Street it serves huge pieces of handmade cakes such as chocolate chilli cake, coffee cake, lemon cake and of course chocolate cake...all embellished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, swirls of coulis and drizzled with chocolate. They are always to...more...

The great thing was the kids could share our room at no additional cost. The deal also included breakfast which really hit the spot and gave us all the energy to go an explore. | Deli in Cadiz Posted 03 Jul 2009 by clare fisher Skip the expensive tapas restaurants in the centre of Cadiz for deli Granero located down one of the many small streets off of the 'Plaza de la Catedral'. The unsuspecting tiny deli tucked nicely in between two elegant restaurants provides you with a warm and rather entertaining welcome once you step inside. A tubby, white shirted man hobbled out to greet us 'tourists' whilst I was trying to...more... |

Eating in Bath Posted 07 May 2009 by Lyn I found a local great restaurant in the city - almost lost "under" the wall in George street. This is a special place and food and service is wonderful.... it made our stay in Bath feel that extra bit special. Prices are reasonale given the fabulous quality of food... the lunch menu price is often still available in the evening if you are lucky so we did not have to eat off the a la carte m...more...
Bath Therma Spa Posted 07 May 2009 by Lyn The new Therma Spa is a luxury to enjoy if you have the time and cash! I booked in for the 4 hour session of wondering through the pools and steam rooms and roof top bath (at a constant bath water temperature- lovely!) I did worry if I would get board and though I may have been better getting just a 2 hour pass... but I happily whiled away the hours (after 2 hours I got into "the chill out zon...more...
Bath things to do and know Posted 07 May 2009 by Lyn Bath is such a beautiful city. Full of fabulous georgian buildings and streets to wonder around. My top tips: The city is small enough to walk around provided you have a tourist map, however if you are short of time or do not wish to walk around, take the city tourist bus.... the ticket is £12 and lasts for 48hours. There are two bus routes, one for the city tour and one which takes you out ...more...
First time in Rome... Posted 23 Apr 2009 by Amelia I have a few recommendations for things in Rome. This list will probably read a bit like any list from any guide book but what the heck, these are some of the unmissable sites in Rome that simply took my breath away. Before I went to Rome Paris was up there as one of my favourite cities of the world but I have to say that the podium is now shared with Roma-it's stunning! And I am sure there are hu...more...
Tikli Bottom Posted 18 Apr 2009 by Aline Dobbie Tikli Bottom is the whimsical name given to the home of my good friends Martin and Annie Howard, of whom I have written in my second book India: The Tiger's Roar and subsequently. Martin Howard was the naval attache to the UK High Commission in the 1980s and he and Annie so loved India that they resolved to stay on and were fortunate ...more...
Cafe culture in Paris Posted 02 Apr 2009 by Amelia It's quite difficult to find a cafe au lait in Paris for under about €5 and a glass of wine for less than €6 but on Place Pigalle I found 'Renzez-Vous des Artistes. As with many of Paris' sprawling street side cafe there are seats outside as well as plenty of room inside with large glass windows to protext you from the elements if you are visiting Paris in the winter months.more...
Best creperie in Paris! Posted 02 Apr 2009 by Amelia Tucked away down a side street-Rue Jean Pierre Timbaud (nearest metro Oberkampf) you will find the charminga and rustic 'Chez Imogene'. This creperie is tiny with a living room feel (not unlike Paladares in Cuba). You could turn up on the off chance as we did on a Friday night and get a table for 2 but booking might be a good idea given the size of the placemore...

Cheap, Delightful Bed and Breakfast Posted 08 Feb 2009 by Emma Jamieson I Gatti di Roma is about ten minutes from the hustle and bustle of Rome's rather unattractive Termini station and yet sits down a quiet side alley in a traditional Roman gated palazzo with windows backing onto a leafy courtyard. 'I Gatti di Roma' bed and breakfast is little more than two traditional and tastefully decorated double bedrooms in the apartment of a prim and genteel Signora. It's no...more...
