Things to see and do in Busselton, Australia

My top tips - local ideas, insider tips, special things to see and do

Busselton is WA's Premier seaside resort town. The Resort is right by the beach although we were staying out of season so it was a bit chilly. We rented a chalet with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and living area - with aircon/heater which immediately went on for our whole visit, so we were nice and toasty. Being off season the resort was very quiet which was nice really - plenty of room for the kids on the Giant Bouncing Pillow.

We did a tour of Ngilgi Caves. and were down there for a few hours. We decided to get as many layers of clothes on all of us in preparation for the caves being cold underground. The tour started with a commentary of how the caves were about 20 degrees, with 100% humidity!!!! This turned out to be the hottest place in WA. We spent the tour peeling off the layers and wiping sweat off our foreheads!

What is it about this place that makes it special

The Caves were stunning, full of amazing stalagmites and stalagtites. So incredible to see such a natural phenomena so wonderfully preserved. Kids loved the caves, especially this covered tube which you had to slide through to get from one part of the caves to another. They did that about 5 times.

Did anyone see the BBC Earth series about the caves when they featured The Lechuguilla cave system in the US?? Now THAT is a cave I would like to see! Anyone any idea if you can visit it? I seem to remember that it was closed to the public.
