A short note on a recent stay on this fantastic island off the coast of Zanzibar.
I stayed on the island for only two nights in June. However, during this time I was fortunate enough to be the first person to become engaged on the island. I cannot speak highly enough of the island, and the staff who manage it.
Being conscious of the world and its resources, this was the first thing that attracted me. The Bandas were ecologically sound in every way, from the compost toilets, to the handmade bio degradable soap manufactured by local Zanzibari women.
Even though the experience came at a price, I felt happy knowing that the funds would be redirected to the conservation of the island. The display in the visitors centre gave us details of the many research studies investigating the nearby coral reef, and it was great knowing that my money would contribute to this sort of work.
But by far the highlight for me was help and kindness I received from all the staff. Fran who runs the office in Zanzibar was incredible, and in fact as friends now we continue to communicate. For example, she was able to obtain fresh flowers, cake and champagne from Zanzibar for me, and by going the extra distance made our time overwhelmingly special. She even made a special trip to the island to meet up and help make sure all was well. But right down to our waiter and hiking guide, both of whom were local Zanzibaris, all staff were amazing. We have fond memories of our waiter Saustenas who climbed the lighthouse carrying a champagne tray to greet us after the proposal.
This island has an outstanding program and deserves any acclaim it receives.
Some stories to tell the grandchildren, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend
