Our romantic holiday choices

Want to book a romantic weekend away or journey round the world with your partner but don't know where to go? Aparently we at responsibletravel.com are a romantic lot so we've put together a collection of our favourite romantic hideaways and adventures to inspire you...

Katie says "It has to be this accommodation Costa Rica ecolodge luxury accommodation  where we went for our honeymoon! Absolutely amazing place, lovely people, gorgeous food.

The staff were nearly all local and really enthusiastic about the difference the accommodation had made to their lives. The guides were brilliant – so knowledgeable and so proud of Costa Rica’s flora and fauna. We became avid twitchers while we were there!

And of course romantic – our little hut nestled in the forest with monkeys peering down at us from the trees and hummingbirds flitting by the windows was the perfect honeymoon hideaway."

Holly Foat Holly says "I have chosen this Solar eclipse tours in Mongolia, which may not be everyone's idea of romance but I have this romantic notion that when a great celestial event happens you should be with someone you love. My boyfriend and I are wildlife enthusiasts so learning about snow leopard conservation and seeing Golden eagles would be great for us. Plus snugly up together to sleep in a cosy yurt or ger seems very romantic to me!"

Jennifer
Seychelles luxury accommodation. The island, with an area of only 25 hectares, is one of the smaller of the Seychelles granitic islands, a private nature reserve, home to endemic birds, sea turtles, tortoises as well as a variety of other endemic flora and fauna.

Olly chose a luxury Greek Island holiday accommodation, a 7-acre private and gated country estate on the shores of the Ionian island of Ithaca perfect for a Greek Island holiday. His other choice was a luxury beach holiday in Brazil. Here part of the cost of your holiday goes towards the planting of trees under the guidance of the Reserva Ecologica de Guapi Assu who protect one of the last stands of primary tropical rainforest in the Atlantic Rainforest.

Lyn
Snowdonia self catering accommodation, set in the heart of Snowdonia, is a 200 year old stone built detached cottage, peacefully situated on leafy hillside. The cottage offers amazing views of the Lake Padarn and the surrounding mountains of Snowdonia. They also accept pets, if you love them too much to leave them behind!

Helena
Helena chose to save on her carbon footprint and visit our cosy accommodations around the UK. She picked North Cornwall luxury accommodation, Chichester bed & breakfast and West Sussex luxury bed and breakfast, and says she hasn't given up hope yet!

Suzanne
Suzanne chose Nkhata Bay accommodation, Malawi, a beautiful rustic retreat situated on Chikale Beach. She says "having already been on safari this would be a chance to experience a different side of Africa – rustic, crystal clear water, opportunity to camp with the locals – what more could you ask for?"

Christopher
"Ahhhh romance – now that conjures up all sorts of wonderful trips and lovely memories... Looking across the site it isn’t easy to choose one from the other but if like me you are looking for a little bit of privacy, a lot of ocean and very little else - except each other of course - then a little coastal hideaways, might just hit the spot..." Zanzibar beach holiday accommodation  or Tobago beach accommodation  or even Saadani safari lodge, Tanzania

Justin
Justin, who is soon to be married, chose Nicaragua luxury accommodation, Honeymoon in Rajasthan, India, Peak District self catering cottages and Ullapool self catering cottages, Scotland.

Richard
Richard chose a Provence boutique hotel, France. This charming old farmhouse is ideally situated at the foot of the Alpilles Mountains and in easy reach of the famous town of Arles. At the end of a stimulating day of sightseeing, relax by the pool and enjoy a drink before dinner. Our friendly staff will introduce you our traditional home cooking.

Jerrine The lush jungle and clear waters of this Malaysia beach resort on Tioman Island provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities - trekking, snorkelling, kayaking and diving are just a few on offer. Or pick up a book and try out our hammocks on the long secluded beach. Walking along our long wooden jetty provides a fascinating insight into the coral fish and turtles, and snorkellers or divers are rewarded with views of the living tropical reefs.

Lisa says "well, I just watched the video for Fraser Island beach resort, Queensland, and it looks like it has a little of everything for my ideal holiday. Just the sound of being on an island is romantic, it sounds remote and safe. Not only does it have picture perfect beaches for relaxing but there are a huge diversity of other terrains to explore (for if you’re like me and lounging on the beach starts to get a little boring.) There are jungles, sand dunes and lakes to explore not to mention a spectacular array of wildlife above land and underwater."

Amelia chose 3 accommodations: "I'd love to visit this Lake Malawi accommodation - although it would be hard to be in Africa and for me not to want to immerse myself in the culture and wildlife, this looks pretty special and like it might keep me suitably distracted! I love the houses on stilts at this Samoa beach resort, and the simplicity of it. You don’t need luxury when you are surrounded by beauty... This Alaska wilderness lodge just looks totally rural and wild. I would have to go when the weather was warm though to make the most of the great outdoors.

Krissy says  "It has to be Argentina for me as I got engaged there in February last year. But let's stop the cheesy love scene right there. A bit of rugged adventure is what you need to get the heartbeat going. This Horse riding & trekking in Argentina oozes 'rustic romance'. You can only reach this North Western part of the country by horse-back or by foot. Pack a double sleeping back and camp out under the beautiful night skies..."
