How Tree house jungle activity holidays in Thailand makes a difference

Environment

Our new air-conditioned tree house and tree high rooms are concealed amongst the trees and are constructed of man-made materials whilst still retaining that “jungle feel”. The rooms are built carefully up, on and around the trees without damaging the centre core. Most rooms have the tree growing through the room at some point. The electric supply to the rooms is controlled by a key sensor, so when you remove the key on leaving the room, the electricity will automatically cut off, thereby saving energy.

Our guests are usually travelling as couples, families or small groups so we avoid uncontrollable mass tourism in the area.

Our Confirmed Booking Vouchers, Invoices and Travellers Code of Conduct guidelines are sent by email to all guests who confirm their bookings. Amongst other things the Code of Conduct suggests ways to reduce the negative impact on the environment and the community, including minimising damage to flora and fauna and appropriate dress code for certain situations.

- Tree House Encounter - Our Tree House Encounter tour includes a guided trek into Khao Sok National Park on pre-established trails, thereby avoiding damage to the flora and fauna and disturbing the wildlife. We pay Park Entrance Fees, the proceeds of which go towards maintaining the ecology of the National Park area.

We visit the local elephant camp where the elephants are well treated and looked after by their Mahouts. It may not be the most natural way of life for an elephant but the job of carrying tourists to a waterfall is a lot less hard work than logging. The income derived from the elephant trek supports the local Mahout and his family as well as ensuring the welfare of the elephant.

- Tropical Taster - This tour includes a one night stay on Chiew Larn Lake in Khao Sok National Park. We pay Park Entrance Fees to visit the Lake, the proceeds of which go towards maintaining the ecology of the National Park area.

Community

The basic style tree house rooms are constructed of bamboo and thatch obtained from self-sustaining resources of locally grown bamboo. The majority of our staff are from the local area and we source our supplies of food, drink and equipment from local businesses where possible.

We visit Wat Pantoorat, Khao Soks’ local Buddhist Temple. The head monk often likes to talk with guests and he can be very informative about the local community; as well as the role of the Temple and monks as part of that community. Donations are always welcome to the Temple, though they are not expected.

- Tree House Encounter - We employ local guides who have a wealth of knowledge of the area they were brought up in and who are happy to impart this knowledge and experience to our guests.

- Tropical Taster - We use local long tail boats and boat drivers to ensure we are putting some money back into the local community. We also employ local guides who have a wealth of knowledge of the area they were brought up in and who are happy to impart this knowledge and experience to our guests.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The morning breakfast on the boat was fantastic. The raft houses are something out of the ordinary. It’s is a top quality place with fantastic professional services. The rowing on the river is the best way to experience the wildlife of Thailand on a safe, but adventurous way... All my expectations were exceeded!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take the 3 day trip instead of the two day trip... We would have loved to spend more time on the raft houses... Take a book and enjoy relaxing!

Yes, especially if we go to the local markets and not the commercial markets.

Responsible travel gave us the best packages at the most value for money. I would definitely work through them again...

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We did a lot of great things in Thailand, but my husband and I agree that staying at the raft houses was the best part of our trip. We loved the morning bamboo raft trip around the island, drinking coffee while looking for monkeys. If we get the chance to return to the country, we will stay there again, booking with this operator!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for a more luxurious tree house than it originally sounds and then a basic raft house - but amazing views and so quiet. If you love adventure, this trip will not disappoint.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes - loved our local guide!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fantastic - would definitely do it again.
