Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Iconic India highlights holiday

This journey is one of our best-selling small group tours. Given the number of travellers that join this journey, this year we are offering twelve carbon offset journeys, where we will offset the carbon emissions for every passenger on every departure, so you can travel guilt-free, knowing we’ve got your carbon footprint covered. We’ll cover all carbon emissions during your trip including hotels and transport, but do not cover the emissions from your international flight.

These small group journeys have a maximum of 16 like-minded travellers which ensures that all travellers have an amazing overall experience with the destination and that they enjoy the flexibility that comes with the small group dynamic. Travelling in a small group also allows us to limit the damage inflicted on the local environment.

From the moment you land in country our local guides and Western tour leaders will also be on hand to give advice on preserving the local environments. In addition to this we will also issue you with our custom created “Tread Lightly” booklet which is filled with practical advice on reducing the impact on the local environment. This includes advice on recycling, social spending, what you may wish to consider avoid purchasing (rare items or products made from poorly sourced wood and other sections of advice for protecting the natural environment.

As a small group tour operator we have developed company-wide policies to ensure we do our utmost to protect the environment. Our UK and Australia offices have opted to join the cleaner climate program which uses Kyoto compliant projects that include hydro projects in Vietnam and wind projects in China.

We believe that travel should entail an exchange of knowledge and perspectives, a sharing of wealth, and a genuine appreciation of India’s beautiful natural environment. This philosophy underpins the heart and soul of our style of travel. We recognise that poorly planned itineraries or poorly informed tourists contribute less to cross-cultural understanding and less to the livelihoods of local people.

Throughout this journey we also make the conscious effort to dine away from hotels in small, independent or family run restaurants. We employ a similar strategy on all our sightseeing with an aim of avoiding the traditional methods of seeing India's iconic sights.

In India we directly support the work of the Purkal Youth Society. This organisation is dedicated to enhancing the lives young people across India's rural regions who are often deeply disadvantaged and lack proper access to education.

Rare amongst other tour operators are our offices on the ground in Asia. This direct presence means that we are much better able to control the content of our itineraries, the actions of our suppliers, and the style of our Small Group Journey and tailor-made travel arrangements. In short, our offices in Asia give us leverage in implementing our responsible travel policy.
